I have read that Glucose Toxicity takes at least 5 weeks to recover from. Does anyone know that if you have Glucose Toxicity, is it possible for your BG to drop briefly within this time through the use of Insulin or exercise?

I suspect I may have this given that I was suffering from all the symptoms of high BG - raging thirst, frequent toilet visits and always hungry for a good number of weeks prior to my BG really shooting up, being diagnosed with 1.5 and subsequently being put onto Insulin.

Three weeks on Insulin now - Triseba = 24, NovaRapid 12-14 3x per day and not really seeing a big difference in my fasting bloods ~14-18 MMOL. BG has dropped after a little exercise though, which was observed with a reading before lunch after a walk in the morning.

My DST did mention it as a possible cause for my Insulin resistance, but can't understand why it could drop on some occassions.

Hi,

How many grams of carbs are you eating at each of your 3 meals? If you're not counting them, it might be a good idea to do so. That'll help us understand your insulin ratio as regards insulin resistance. Typically many of us have ratios of about 1:10 (1 unit insulin to 10g carbs) but some are down at 1:3.

Also, are you snacking in between those meals and/or 4 hours after your Nova injection?

My readings on diagnosis were 35 mmol/L and after insulin came straight down to about 10 within a week so I'm surprised you're seeing no change at all.

Hi, thanks for the response.

I am not counting carbs yet, I think my DST is going to go through that with me soon. However, I am in Ireland and the HSE (NHS equivalent) computer systems have been hacked and so the service is severely disrupted at the moment. I am not sure when it will happen. I will see what I can learn on this myself though.

I am constantly hungry, even though I was previously active and have now stopped and rested for the past few weeks I am still eating a lot, this includes snacking. I mentioned this to the DST but she didn't appear too concerned.

Wow 35 MMOL, my max has been around 25, but that wasn't fasting. Fasting readings haven't changed too much as I say.

It could also be that you were started on a conservative dose of Tresiba and that that might need adjusting slightly if you’re waking that high.

The hunger could be your high blood sugar. I felt absolutely starving when my blood sugar was high before diagnosis.

Yes, I increase Tresiba every time we meet, I have tripled that over the past three weeks - from 8 to 24.

I think the hunger is BG related too.

Hope you manage to make contact with your clinic soon. Do you have an email address / phone number to let them know about your concerns that your levels are being a bit stubborn, and to get some advice around carbohydrates.
