hi every1. im new to the forum. i was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic in feb 2011. im considering buying a blood glucose testing monitor as a friend has kindly lent hers to me. i just wondered if any of you have purchased a 'codefree blood glucose monitor', and if you have, what would be your advice on this model. iv chosen this model as the testing strips are very reasonably priced at ?6.99 per 50.many thanx 🙂🙂

Welcome to the forum sweetooth 🙂

Unfortunately I can't really help with anything about the codefree as I'm using a Abbott's meter.

Thanx Mark. Just having a nosey around the forum, finding my feet so to speak. 🙂

I have two from Abbott's. One is their Freedom Freestyle Lite, no coding needed, and an Insulinx which again doesn't need coding. Both very easy to use, although the Insulinx has some basic apps on board such as alarms which can be set to remind you to test and take meds, you don't have to use those bits. I use an app called OnTrack on my moby to keep my records so I haven't bothered with the Insulinx apps much. I'd reccommend the FFLite as the simplest meter I've come across. Strips are the same for both and cost around ?25 for a pot of 50, though can find them cheaper online. Will your doctor let you have strips on prescription? If not, there are cheaper options but I can't recall what they are off hand.

Once you decide which meter you fancy it might be worth getting in touch with the company who makes then to see if you can persuade them to give you one for nothing - the DSN's or your doctors surgery night be worth a try as well - after all, what have you got to lose just by asking? 😉

Hello Sweetooth.

I'm type one & I got mine from clinic, it's an aviva but they aren't cheap to run when it's not funded by the PCT.

You can ask your nurse about putting testing strips on your prescription but you maybe told you don't need to test (I have the same struggle to get testing strips & I have to test 3 to 4 times a day)
