Hi all, I’ve tested my blood 1 hour after eating my breakfast and having a cup of tea and it was 8.6. I don’t know if this is ok or not. I didn’t test before eating if I should have?

Yes you should have tested before and then after 2 hours (1 hr is too soon to be as useful) If your increase was less than 3mmol/l then your breakfast was OK.

I checked before my lunch and it was 5.5 and then checked two hours later and it was 8.9. Looking at the chart cherrelle duk sent, I think 8.5 is the highest it should be so although 8.9 is higher than recommended am I right in thinking it’s not too bad either?

That's not too bad but your meal could perhaps do with a little tweak to reduce the carbs a bit and keep the rise in BG to less than 3 mmols.
What did you have for lunch?

A prawn sandwich on brown bread and falafel x
The meal you had was quite high in carbs, the sandwich with 2 slices of bread if medium thickness would be about 28g carb and the falafel being made of chickpeas which are high carb and are 32g carb per 100g falafel so it would depend on how big it was. So yes it is a rather carb heavy. A better option would be the prawns with some salad and 1 slice of bread or the falafel with salad and maybe coleslaw.
The test for that meal to see if it is better for you to tolerate.

Whilst chickpeas are relatively high carbs, some people do not digest the carbs in them (they pass straight through). Therefore, quite a few people can eat falafel, hummus, etc, with little impact on their levels.
I would not avoid them unless you know they affect you.
