@Teacake The two meters often recommended by Type 2s here are the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Tee2 because they’re good and not too expensive to buy the strips.

Hi @Teacake . @Inka is correct about the meters we Type 2's use (I have the TEE2 ).
What is sometimes missed is how to use them - The best use for them (initially) is in finding which (carby) foods your body can and cannot tolerate. To do this test before each meal and then 2 hrs after first bite aiming for no more than a rise of 2.0 mmol from the before meal reading to the 2hrs reading. If it is 2.0 mmol or below then the food and quantities was OK. If higher then you need to look at individual components to either cut down on (potato or carrot for example) and/or substitute with something else which contains fewer carbohydrates (both sugars and starches).
I use the Tee2+ and was able to get replacement lancets and strips on prescription through my diabetes nurse. Do not ask your doctor, they will refuse.
One thing that confused me, I let the android app stay running in the background all the time. That stops the btooth connection and consequently the data flow. Once the data has gone through, exit the app and it will re-initialise it for next time.
