Hi guys

Seeing i cannot get to see or speak to my diabetic nurse and have tried for over 2 weeks now can anyone advise if I should be concerned..

When i do my glucose testing first thing in the morning they are around 30..I do ketone tests and that doesn't change..I'm on glicozide and Empagliflozin too..I have had different meds previous to this and not had high numbers..
Could it be the machine? As had this 2018? I don't want to buy one just in case however could do with knowing have asked a few places including where I went for diabetic eye screening who said go to GP..
Any guidance would be great

Are your test strips in date? Are you washing your hands first? Does your pee in the morning smell sweet (odd question perhaps but mine definitely has a smell when I’m high).

good idea @Inka if you cant contact your nurse try gp as 30 is dangerous level to be at do you have any symptoms Let us know how it goes

Also do you have any control fluid to check the meter with?

If you have a pharmacy near many will do a blood glucose finger prick test which you can compare with the reading from your monitor.
I did try but they were so busy. I also tried the gp practice where they do my eye screening she was just very rude and said to go to my own...mine don't seem to care as now made me an appt for 15th January! Surely it should be checked..

I've been trying for weeks she's been on annual leave came back Wednesday last week. Nothing spoke to gp Friday who said would speak to her heard nothing and chased it today said she's now on training and made me an appt for 15th jan
.I have asked for them to get her to call me tomorrow. I have seen a consultant at hospital before so may try them instead..

Yes I've got new ones and new lancets too but machine maybe too old I am not sure..I was hands
Weirdly I can never smell anything so would never know lol

Have you checked the battery in your monitor as if getting low can give erratic results.
Control fluid is a solution with a known amount of glucose which can be used on the test strip to check it in range, not all monitors have it available. Have a look at the instructions to see if yours does.
As you are taking gliclazide you should get a monitor and strips on prescription so you could request a new monitor from your GP.
You could try some test at other times of the day ie, just before eating and after 2 hours to see what your readings are then.

Sorry not sure what you mean by control fluid
It should have come in the box with the meter or you order it from the meter manufacturer

Hiya
There are new batteries in the machine. This is a nexus machine got given it when I was diagnosed in 2018. I have asked a few times to say should I try a new machine as I've never had high like this it's at its highest 12. I'm having tea shortly so will check it again. Just think with only having 1 diabetic nurse at surgery it all goes messed up when she's off...

Have you asked the meter company for a new one?

You could buy some control solution for your Nexus from E-bay for 99p free delivery.

@Suzibear79 I have a Nexus given to me by HCP i saw in September ie unofficial. Yet when I was put on oral steroids for two weeks my consultant assumed i could check my blood glucose. The strips are more expensive than other machines recommended here. Mine came with some fluid for testing and suggested test each week, but I haven't. I did do a test first time I used it. I was also given some keto sticks but haven't felt the need to use them. Do you have any diabetic friends who would check you? I didn't like the idea of wasting needles unnecessarily and am using my original one but I haven't checked every day. Obviously if someone uses their machine you need to use a new needle. Are you in touch with any diabetic groups? Do you by any chance work somewhere that has an accessible health care professional. I suppose ultimately you could go to A and E but that is heavy duty and a long wait.
Do try your doctors again and or a pharmacy. You need this sorted before Christmas. It must be causing you stress. My diabetic nurse is off sick and at my surgery I think you have to be half dead to see a Doctor.

Sorry to hear you are getting such high readings on your meter.

It does sound like it would be worth getting them double-checked. If your levels are very elevated then it does sound like you should get checked out, as levels anywhere near the 30s need looking into I’d say.

Perhaps call NHS111 and ask their advice?

Do you have a walk in centre near you, where you can just turn up and get an appointment with doctor or nurse. The ones near me let you do that, you may have a bit of a wait depending how many are in front of you. Tell them what your level is and that you haven’t been able to get an appointment at your practice and that you are worried. Hope you get sorted.

Update ***
Since posting this is became very poorly Monday night out of the blue felt very sick with stomach cramps which is very similar to other problems I have. I got taken to hospital and still here looks like it's DKA so they have put me on on saline with glucose and insulin infusion too. I was in resus for over 12 hours

Hoping they let me home soon
