The glucomen areo is 2 weeks old. I was asked to take one reading a day- for reason of diagnosis of Type. The problem is the pen and lancet? Or my circulation . Its hard to get sufficient blood for the metre test.
I've developed an alternative use of the lancet but it doesn't always work. Is there another means in use to get readings ?

Looking at the instructions it need the tiniest drop of blood about the size of a pin head. The picture shows the strip being applied to the side of the finger which is not the best place, you want to use the fleshy part of the finger, just to the side. Make sure your hand are warm and massage towards the finger tip before you prick, it should bleed freely but if not press gently just below the prick site and hold the strip against the blood drop and it will run into the strip by capillary action, but do not overfill it.

Thanks leadinglight . I do all of these, often i get error , not enough blood :-( .... Im just off the get a mug of hot water to clutch for 20mins 🙂

Hi Leadinglight has removed the jinx. my 1st attempt this eve failed with an error message BUT the 2nd was OKAY. A bit of encouragement means a lot.

I have never used a a Glucomen, but I have found some makes of strips seem to be more tricky than others.

Ive got to ring my pharmacist tomorrow I'll ask if there is another I can try. I can tell when there is and isnt enough. A big blob is whats required !! Im thinking of an old Hancock comedy about a blood donor.

It will need a another meter as well! As the strips are specific for each machine.

Hi Jenny, I have this BG meter and at first I found it difficult to use, I kept getting the dreaded ER 3 code I used so many test strips I ran out!!! I found that a number 3 on the lancet worked well to get a good drop of blood I agree the fleshy bit is better rather than the side of your finger you won’t need a Hancock armful I promise! I prepare the strip and meter before doing the finger prick. I keep the strip quite upright when the blood drop appears and this seems to work better. It’s all still early days for you and there is a lot to get your head round at first. This forum is a good place for information and it’s really helped me ‘take the worry away’ it’s a bit like YouTube for diabetics there is always someone somewhere who has the answer to your question!!
best of luck

Thanks I'll try 3. I find when the trigger is pulled the inject isnt firm enough. So 3 it is. I bought a pack of replacement strips. Certainly take the worry away will be good.
