I tend to use the juice for night hypos and the tablets when out and about. I presume the juice is absorbed quicker? The price of these seems to have increased a lot recently - is this due to the sugar tax? Anyone found bargains online? Need to stock up for next 6 months as have 2 hols , a birth and a wedding (neither mine!)

Hi Pippaandben
I do the same as you but with JBs during the day.
I got caught out one night, and struggled to get a hypo sorted without repeated treatments. It was only in the morning that I checked the carbs in the juice, which I had done ages ago but in the bigger cartons. On these small ones I found that the carbs had halved!!! No wonder I had struggled. Switched to a different juice for overnight, which is a shame as the cranberry (probably) had other benefits, and I liked it.

As an aside, sputum pots (freely available from your helpful GP surgery) are exactly the right size for 3 JBs.

Hi. I just use Dextrose tablets. Cheap and small. They crunch easily in the mouth and would then be absorbed just as quickly in the stomach as glucose juice. The liquids might be more useful if someone treats you when you are unconscious but then there are still pros and cons.

You should NEVER EVER try to give ANYTHING orally when someone is unconscious - far too much choke hazard.

Quite a number of us lose the ability to chew when hypo but don't lose our swallowing reflex as quickly. Each person's best remedy is personal to them. (Just like everything else about our/their D !)

I had jelly babies in bag, but daughter bought me dextros tabs. Hypo yesterday because late lunch and it worked a treat. Still overtreated though so will have to get that down realistically

I prefer Glucotabs to Dextrosol, the latter are fine when just opened, but after a while can go very hard and difficult to crunch!

I use Gluco Tabs, www.gogluco.co.uk my local pharmacist has a deal on at the moment, £2 for three tubes compared to £3.50 per tube at another well known pharmacy with a black horse delivering prescriptions.🙂 Oh and don`t forget the jelly babies.😎
