hi
has anybody out there had problems with gliclazides and weight gain - if so please talk to me - i am desperate :-(

Hi nitaduck, I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with the medication. Have you ever discussed Byetta or Victoza with your doctor? Many people find that this works well for them without promoting weight gain, so it might be worth a try.

Can't say I have had problems at all. 3 x 30mg tablets every morning with breakfast. So far, so good.

I've been taking it for the past ten years or so, 3x 30mg per day. I am overweight and glic may have contributed to it but lately have been slowly losing it by trying to eat sensibly and cutting my portions. Still got a long way to go though. Have a chat with your DSN. Mine is very helpful.

thanks kate that fills me with hope (which i need right now) - northerner thanks i did take byetta and the gliclazides were stopped but unfortuneately after 3yrs i developed a reaction to it so back to gliclazides. i have never heard of victozer though - anyhow i have decided to go discuss this with my diabectic nurse and hopefully will find a solution
thanks for all the advice

I'm surprised to read so much about weight gain. Between six-mothly check ups, I've never gained any more than a couple of kilos.

Yes! It's only since I've been off them that I've started losing weight. Talk to your doctor about alternatives, there are other options. What other meds are you on?

hi alison
thanks i thought i was goin mad :-( i take glucophage and tried byetta (during this time i was not on gliclazides) but after almost 3yrs i suffered side effects so off byetta back on glics - weight back on
