When I had a really bad chest infection recently I was prescribed gliclazide on top of metformin . I am now pretty much recovered from the infection and asthma and D are getting back to normal.
However I feel really tired, a bit shaky and vague.. Still taking it, but ... Should I? I am seeing the doc on Tuesday for a check on the recent treatments , but I wonder, should I stop ?
Any advice useful !!

Are you able to test yourself Ann? Feeling as you do could be a sign that your blood sugar levels are dropping low, or it may just be that they are fine, just lower than you are accustomed to. Testing would be one way of making sure you are safe to continue taking them now the effects of the infection have abated.

Have you stopped taking the dreaded steroids? I find that I feel fit as a flea towards the end of the course when the asthma symptoms have more or less gone away, but then feel awful for the first few days after stopping them. Last time I was on steroids I wasn't taking any diabetes drugs and didn't have a meter, so I have no idea what my BG levels were doing.

Thank you... I am testing now again ( they allow me test strips here 🙂 ) my levels are going down but only between 8 and 19 instead of 13 and 26

I have just stopped the steroids , perhaps that's what it is.. To go from 8 tablets to none immediately is probably a shock ! I am pleased to hear it may just be a tablet imbalance for a short while instead of being ill again !

Thanks 🙂

I hope you soon start to feel better. Years ago they used to do long, tailing off courses of steroids to gradually reduce the 8 tablets a day to none over about 3 weeks. That was less of a shock to the system, but I think it fell out of favour because of the effects on the immune system and bone density.

Thank you 🙂

It depends on how long you have the steroids for.
If for more than a week you come off slowly so it doesn't cause an adrenal crisis.(Can be fatal)

Thanks pumper sue, I was put on 3 days of 8 tablets then a week later a 10 day course which then stopped dead so perhaps that is the cause of my feeling a bit unwell. It is reassuring that that may be the case ... I shall just ride it I guess. I wish I could get my readings down though, not got below 8 in the morning and usually up to late teens at night , a bit worrying as I am eating reasonably well and getting back to my exercise after this horrid infection. Patience I suppose !!

Hi Ann, I'm sure you will be fine soon. The fact you had so much steroid was because you were so unwell. The hot weather will drain you without you realising it. So take things nice and slow pamper yourself and you will soon start to feel a lot better. 🙂
