Type 2
Hi ya I've just been diagnosed with type 2 I'm 42 I'm a scaffolder so I could really do with a bit of help with diet any tips from breakfast to dinner and tea time I can't get my levels down I'm brand new at this so any suggestions would go along way cheers amigos x

Hi and welcome to the forum @Stereophonics 🙂
When were you diagnosed?
What kind of things are you eating at the moment?
The best plan would be to reduce your carbohydrate intake as its not just the sugars we have to be careful of its the WHOLE carbohydrate content, so cut down on the likes of potatoes, pasta, bread etc, take a look at this thread, it might give you some ideas but do ask questions too

hope to see a reply soon 🙂 xx

Welcome.
Check out the food forum and exercise is a must as your job makes you lazy and lethargic, get a tough, manly electrician job like me 🙂
Anyhoot, cut out all white carbs like pots, rice, pasta and get your portions of good brown stuff down, all meats good, cheese, nuts etc, good ideas on here.....btw, the full English in the greasy spoon is ok except no chips, beans or toast. I'm a newbie as well (feb) and you'll get good ideas here as I have.

Hi @Stereophonics.🙂 All good advice from the other posters, though I would still watch out for the wholemeal alternatives as these can still spike blood sugars. I'll give you an example of a typical days food. Breakfast could be bacon & eggs, Natural Greek yoghurt with a few berries & nuts (not salted) or omelette. Cereals are not a good option, though some do get away with porridge. Lunch can be a salad with either chicken, ham or whatever really, There are lower carb breads such as Burgen or Hovis 'lower carb' range if you want a sandwich. Dinner can be any meat or fish with green leafy veg, broccoli, cauli. I replace potatoes with either celeriac, turnip or swede, which can be mashed, chipped or roasted. Sugar free jelly makes a good dessert with a few berries & cream. Dark choc (85% or higher) is ok in moderation too.🙂

That's a trickier question. I have not watched portion size when it comes to very low carb, I eat til i'm full. Things like bread (even the lower carb options) I stick to no more than 2 slices a day. Root veg (excluding potatoes) still have some carbs so I limit them to a 'sensible' portion. You can eat as much lettuce as you want.:D Anyway, I still managed to lose 4 stone regardless.🙂

Welcome Stereophonics.
Good advice from everyone and again I agree with @Mark Parrott .
I don't watch anything other than the carb content and I eat until I am full sometimes very full.
Enjoy what you eat just watch the carbs. I also have lost 20 kilos weight since Septemeber last year.
Sometmes I think I eat to much but then again I am still loosing weight although that has slowed down and I am happy with my current level.
I view being T2 purely as an inconvenience and adjusted my lifestyle accordingly but it certainly does not rule my life.

I have eaten them Stereo but i have used them ths way.
I check the carbs on the jar first and go for the lower ones a BAlti for example.
I cook the chicken in a slow cooker with the sauce.
I eat the meat but very little of the sauce using he sauce mainly for flavour purposes although I do eat some.
I eat it wth cauliflower rice which is low in carbs .
Important is to test first and then 2 hours after.
You may find it could have little effect on you especially using cauliflower rice and chicken or other meats which are low or zero carbs.
That takes the edge of the sauce content.
Just how I do do it and it works for me.
I always avoid sweet and sour mixes though.
I have done the same with sausage casserole mixes.
