I’m feeling like I want to give up on the tablets but I won’t. Since being diagnosed in June I started on Metformin but had a really bad tummy so docs put me on sr Metformin. I still have a bad tummy plus feeling bloated, sicky feeling and having to force myself to eat. I’m doing everything I should food and carb wise. I’ve not had crisps sweets cakes or anything I shouldn’t but really feeling depressed about always feeling rubbish every day. I didn’t have any symptoms before diagnosis but feel so down now.
My personal advice would be to discuss topping the Metformin SR with the GP. For most people it works fine but a few can't tolerate even the SR version. As Metformin isn't a miracle cure it can be best to look for other diabetes meds as well as the obvious low-carb diet.
I had a really bad few weeks trying to take the tablets - so bad that I stopped taking them, but I never needed them, so it was OK just to eat low carb.
Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time @Motherhen - especially since you weren’t aware of any unpleasant symptoms from your diabetes at diagnosis.
Do have a chat with your GP and let them know how difficult you are finding things. I’m sure they will want to explore different options and alternatives with you that might suit you better.
Your initial HbA1c of 85 would usually indicate some sort of medication I think - to give your metabolism a helping hand - but there are multiple options if Metfartin is causing havoc for you.
By eating low carb I got from Hba1c of 91 to 47 in 80 days - so you might have a good argument to try diet only if you have had a similar response to your changes in foods.
I’ve been taken off Metformin even SR didn’t work for me.
I’ve been put on Vipidia/ Alogliptin anyone else been on these and how was it. I’m on my 6th day and so far so good
