Hi everyone
Had another blood test and had the results last week. I have gone down from 13.2 to 10.9. Dr says its getting better but has upped my dosage from metformin 500mg 3 times per day to 1000mg 3 times per day. Is this usual to increase it like this?

Hello Snowyowl, glad your levels have improved to some extent. It's not unusual to increase the metformin dose if you're tolerating it well. The purpose of metformin is to reduce your insulin resistance so that your body uses what your pancreas produces. It also hase some side-benefits, like reducing the risk of some cancers and reducing the appetite, which helps some people to lose weight. If the increased dose of M causes more of the unpleasant side-effects, you could ask your doctor for the slow-release version.

Hi Lee Lee

Thanks for the info. Everything just seems so much to take in over such a short period. It seems that you walk into the Dr's surgery, told you have diabetes given a folder to read. Told you will get an appointment once a year to the diabetic clinic. Will be sent appointments to have your eyes photographed, have your feet checked. Told to make an appointment in 10 weeks time for another blood test and any questions!!!!! oh and get these tablets from the pharmacy on the way out
The brain cannot take it all in and this all happens in about 10 to 15 mins at the most.
You walk away with your brain in a whorl, not knowing quite what has just happened
You have just been hit with news of a life changing event and there you are with a folder in your hand and told to get on with things. It sure is a sharp learning curve. Goodness knows how people without internet access get along?
