Type 1
Hi, I got type 1 for my 50th birthday which was a surprise I could've done without. The worst of it is I've been a coach driver/tour guide for the last 20years. Lost my licence / career as a result and haven't worked since. Never had an episode. Thanks to my Nurse at the clinic for her support and guidance.
Feeling aggrieved and depressed.

It's always a shock, whatever type of Big D you end up with, the effects on our lives can be devastating. I'm not surprised you're a bit narked over it - I was too, still am actually. I'm glad you've got good support from your medical folk though, that makes a huge difference.

Regarding your career, it's not quite the same thing I know but have you considered, health allowing of course, building a new career as a walking tour guide? I've been on a few really great ones in Auld Reekie, there's so much history there to work with. Just a thought.

Hi Ged and a warm welcome to the forum

Welcome Ged.

I also lost large parts of my career with diagnosis / starting on insulin when aged 30, while working as a guide on seal & dolphin swimming tours some 15 years ago - no longer allowed to professionally drive minibuses, SCUBA dive etc. However, I have found work in tourism sector, in country parks etc, where I drive tractors among other tasks, which is permitted by DVLA.

As AlisonM says, there are several good walking tour companies in Edinburgh - including ghosts etc.
