Hi there,

Just as the infamous glam-rock star Suzie Quatro once yelled; '48-crash' into her SubZero SV1 microphone to announce her new album debut; here I am, gate-crashing on this established Diabetes UK website - another newbie addition to what must be a megolithic membership user forum!.

Hope you don't mind me joining up and to hopefully give and recieve informed and useful advice and possibly build some friendships along the way?.

You're warmly welcomed here, in fact amazingly so! 🙂

No gatecrashers, just welcome new members. We're all in this together after all!

Welcome to the forum Amazinglyso. What makes you tick, apart from Suzi Quatro's music?

Thanks for your wonderfully kind welcoming me to the site - indeed, we are 'all in it together' yet in a much more important way than Cameron's austerity measures of early 2016 and before his recent leaving DS for good. Please forgive my strange humour; I mainly reserve political view-points for online news commentary only, certainly shall not engage in political talk here, only about what is relevant to what brings me here and all those that use the forum for their Diabetes conditions.

Like your 'rather cute, small, aquatic crustacean' quote by the way! 🙄😛

Hi amazinglyso, welcome to the forum 🙂 Have you been diagnosed long?

Hey Northerner,

Only within the last few months. Had a rather odd encounter with my GP after confirming blood-test results, who sugessted that YES, I am Diabetic, yet only just by a few (Chocolate Digestive biscuits) of a full pack confirmation. My GP said that I was approx 17 stone overweight yet look nothing at all that much overweight because of the very clever way I manage to carry it - look nowhere near that size, yet never weight myself ordinarily. I have since began changing the whole of my diet and drinking gallons of water each-day and eating and drinking fruit/veg stuffs and cutting out salted things like Crisps; salted nuts and sugary things of all description - cook everything from scratch without salts added.

Have since lost 2 stone since my diagnosis yet have a problem with alchahol because of my longterm mental health condition as a 'borderline personality disorder' individual who experiences acute anxiety and depression. I have now also taken to extreme form of excercise and pulling weights and going to my local free gym in the park and toning myself as well as Yoga kind of stretching etc just like I once did when I was 24.

I also now drink Lambrini instead of Wine at the weekends, so although have issues with drink, do keep it to one-day a week and drink plenty of fluids throughout the day and beforehand.

Well hello right back at you Amazinglyso and a very warm welcome from me to the monolith. Folks around here are extremely friendly, very helpful, warm and generous. With the exception of me of course, I am none of the above. If there is ever anything I can do for you then please just shout out and I'll do my best. I look forward to reading your stuff and hope you find a slight bit of interest in reading mine.

My name's Geoff by the way 🙂

Thanks for your kind and wonderful message Geoff from the amazing-monolith that I am!. Sure you are generous - your ears listening to shouts, means that you are most definitely a warm and kind person on the whole. 🙂 Shall definitely read your posts and try my level best at providing unbias reply as never judge a book by its cover.

Sadly just a hat and scarf, a poncho with a hood sounds wonderous, will have to give it a go.

Welcome to the Forum. People on here are very kind and knowledgeable. They have been a godsend to me. I was told I was at high risk a few months back and had no idea what to do until I found this Forum.
