Hello everyone!

I haven't been around for quite sometime now, I hope everyone is well, and doing ok during these weird times.

I wondered if there was anyone on here with gastroparesis, and how you went about getting it diagnosed. I suspect I have it.
I was misdiagnosed as type 2 for 5 years before my re-diagnosis of type 1 (or 1.5!) and for the last two years of that time my BG was nearly always in the 20s, and even the 30s, only the slow shutting down of my beta cells kept me from going into DKA I think, anyway, I was told to expect complications sooner than others due to the effects this extended period of hyperglycaemia.
Well, I have some symptoms of what I think may be gastroparesis, I can't get an appointment with my DSN for months, and the doctors are of course very busy right now, and this isn't really an emergency that I need to get sorted right this second, I thought I'd just ask you wonderful lot if anyone had any experience in this area?

Stay safe all,
Vick x

Thank you both, and hello again!

Hi Vicki I’m sorry to hear that you think that you may have gastroparesis. I will try to help as much as I can. I was diagnosed with severe gastroparesis just over ten years ago With a Gastric Emptying Test. Fortunately I had a good consultant but he has retired. Many doctors have differing views about what can/can’t be done. For example my current consultant, who is brilliant and thinks that I do amazing has had a gastroparesis paper published in the BJM, but it doesn’t recommend the treatment plan that I’m on. However she doesn’t have a problem with me doing it because of my excellent HBA1C - most people with gastroparesis cant get a HBA1C below 8.5. BUT the medications I’m on can have very serious side effects, including major heart problems, so many doctors may not recommend. However rather than me continuing to ramble on please let me know why you May think that you have gastroparesis and any questions that you have Amanda x

Lovely to see you posting again @Mini-Vicki, but sorry to hear what has brought you here :(

What symptoms are you experiencing that make you think you might have gastroparesis?
