Diagnosed with this complication a couple of years ago and am now awaiting surgery for a gastric pacemaker.
Anyone out there with gastroparesis able to share how they cope with work and life in general 'cos I'm finding it all a bit much.
Anyone had the gastric pacing and can tell me what it's all like (the op, the recovery, the improvement)

I dont have any advice for you, but wish you well for your op, hope you dont have to wait too long? may I ask what the gastric pacemaker does as i have not heard of this before.

Thanks for your good wishes, hope to have the op in January. A gastric pacemaker works in the same way as a heart pacemaker in that it sends electrical impulses to stimulate activity. In this case, the emptying of the stomach contents into the intestines.

Oh I see. Not too long to wait then im sure you will feel much better. How long have you been diabetic for Nat? I hope you are well otherwise. Sure someone will be able to give you more info on this soon, 🙂

No good advice but I hope it all works out well for you and you feel better afterwards.

Thanks. Been diabetic 32 years and also have retinopathy and have had a lot of laser treatment. I was a rebellious teenager and young adult and am paying the price now! That said, not sure I would have been interested enough to do things differently if I'd known what the future would hold!!!
What's your story?

Hi Nat,

Didn't know what one was until I read this thread, so can't help with adice, but like the others, I wish you all the best with the op and recovery.

Hi,

I do not know if you have seen this link:-

http://www.gastroparesis.org.uk/

It looks to be of interest. I suspect my mother had it in a mild form towards the end of her life - not from diabetes but from Parkinsons.

Hope it goes well!

Thank you for this link, hadn't seen it before. i'm going there right now!!!

Sounds like you're having it rough. Are you able to be in work and do any socialising? I find that helps keep me positive. Someone posted a link to a website that answered a lot of my questions too. www.gastroparesis.org.uk It may be worth having a look.
I'd be interested to hear what your next step is.
