The study, published today in The Lancet, also shows that over one-third of surgically-treated patients remained diabetes-free throughout the 10-year period of the trial. This demonstrates, in the context of the most rigorous type of clinical investigation, that a “cure” for type 2 diabetes can be achieved.

Those are major surgeries, and not without their own risks and potential unwanted outcomes, to a greater or lesser extent.

Whilst I feel sure there will be patients who could benefit from such drastic actions, but I sincerely hope the prospect of either never enters my universe.

i was going to have gastro surgery but it did come with high risks. lucky that i had an endoscopy first and didn't need surgery the endoscopy did have findings which could be treated with medications. if the surgery had gone wrong it would of meant a feeding peg for the rest of my life.
