I have an appointment for a scan to see whether I have gallstones or not... can I ask what painkillers those who have/had the condition take when a flare-up happens...

I was checked last year for gallstones and told it was all clear but am aware things can change....

Also, did anyone else have a liver function check as well - GP said this is routine as the liver/gallbladder are linked and the liver can inform if he gallbladder is blocked etc...

Many thanks, Amanda x🙂

I was prescribed pethidene for the pain.

Pain in upper abdomen, spreading to shoulder (especially at the back), and ocasionally the midriff. Pain (i) gets worse with every 'attack' and (ii) lasts longer every attack. Difficult to get comfortable. Indigestion. Flatulence😱. Nausea (rarely). Temperature.
That's what I remember ... it was nine years ago!
Incidentally, my liver function tests were normal.

I have pain around the right hand side; I tend to belch all the time and this sometimes relieves the pain; had a UTI infection last week but knew it was something else because I had difficulty sleeping on my right hand side a few weeks ago; as though I was lying on something....this has only slowly subsided. My poor body is falling apart; if its not one thing its another; just waiting for my scan which hopefully will confirm what is wrong... losing weight has just brought on more problems...🙄

i am awaiting my results!
I was given codeine for the pain, but if I am honest, it doesn't really do much.

I also find it hard to lay on my right hand side, and when I get a flare up of whatever it is, it feels like it's a very bad stitch...so bad that it doubles me over in pain and it hurts to breathe.

I've had the odd stitch pain but its a more numbling pain, I am watching what I eat as I found that I get flare-ups when I've eaten eggs; sausages and ate ham yesterday.... its the waiting for a scan that's going to be difficult but hopefully won't be too long. Hope you get the result and treatment soon xx

Hi newtothis

I had my gall bladder removed in July. Before it was removed I had become quite ill. I was only really in pain when I got an attack. the pain was horrendous just under my breasts and I was physically sick with every attack. I ended up in hospital for a week in may with an infection really I'll. I took paracetamol and codine and also had an anti sickness drug and lanzoprasol to stop stomach producing acid.

Pm me if you need more info on dos and donts.

Xxx

I hope you get the test results back and some help soon and something can be done to help you feel better.
