With the purpose of “recognizing and encouraging outstanding contributions to the field of separation science by a young chemist or chemical engineer,” the Award for Young Investigators in Separation Science was recently given and awarded to Florida State University chemist Michael Roper. His work at FSU focuses significantly on diabetes research.
The award was given to him from the American Chemical Society and is a national award recognizing the work of chemists that are still early on in their careers.
“Overall, our research is centered on developing new methods to answer questions in biology,” Roper said. “The biological focus is diabetes, and we are trying to measure different processes that control the release of the hormones that regulate glucose, such as insulin and other hormones.”
