Hello! Nice to meet you all!
Because I am very poor with my mobility, “suffering spinal stenosis and 2 year post operative discomfort” I cannot stand very long to prepare food.
I would like to hear from “like bodied” members for any tips, easy recipes etc for one person. I am not fond of “fussy” and expensive ingredients.
Thank you!

Hi!

How long is “very long” for you?

I’m sure we can come up with some ideas but what sort of things do you like to eat?

Hello!
10 minutes most. Walking about 5 minutes and then excruciating pain in my back and legs having to sit or fall down.
I am on your medications too, plus Gliklizide and Clopidogrel 75mg blood thinners following two minor strokes, and the max 8 CoDydromol pain killers each day.
I like flavoursome food, some spicy to a degree, chicken, tuna, beef, pork, lamb.
Am currently ordering ready meals from Ocado. First delivery tomorrow so will let you know, 🙂
Do you suffer with itchy skin at all, which I believe can be caused by Long term use of Metformin?.

I buy vegetables ready to use from the freezer, I have various meats ready to use - chicken thighs, chopped beef or slices of meat.
If my mobility reduces I could easily sit down and put together a meal - either in a slow cooker, on a small induction hob which can be plugged in anywhere, or in a bowl to put into the halogen oven. I cook chicken thighs in a Tefal Actrfry, I can do steak or chops in a grill which senses temperature. I buy large packs of meat and divide them up into individual bags to freeze.
There is no need to stand up to prepare meals or sort out food - work on a table or counter top sitting on a suitable chair or stool.

Hello @Ty-Refail . Welcome to the forum. Sorry I can’t help with your query, but I did wonder if a perching stool or other type of stool would be of any help in the kitchen .

We have a perching stool like this one

My family members have a perching stool for the kitchen, or you could sit down elsewhere to do the chopping preparation, and then use the perching stool whilst it cooks? Or else tray bake type things that you put in the oven you could prepare the veg sitting down somewhere, then just put it in the oven and not need to stand to watch it?

Hi Ty-Refail, welcome to the forum.

I use an office chair (it seems daft writing that but it works lol!) and helps me to zip around the kitchen though you have to make sure it's a safe height. The perching stool looks like it will help too.

You might have to watch out for the hidden carbs and sugar in premade food so worth looking at things that are already seasoned for ease sake and then you can control how it's cooked.

My go to is quiche as you can make lots of different kinds and it cook from frozen. I only cook more complex meals on a Sunday when I've got the time to pace myself otherwise it's whatever I can throw in the oven or Airfryer plus a big peppery salad made with all the bits n bobs that I like!

I know it's not the cheapest option, but I use a lot of prepared vegetables, and my microwave. For example, I make a soup with pre-packed carrot/swede, squash/sweet potato, cabbage/leek, topped and tailed green beans, tinned tomato, stock cubes, (all courtesy of Sainsburys) water. All I have to do is chop an onion and celery sticks (a couple of minutes), put it all in a large pot and cook for 30 minutes. 12 servings of soup - one for me and 11 for the freezer.

They give you those perching stools for free, Mum got lots of things, a wheelchair, a walker, a walking frame, a commode and a brand new recliner. Can't complain really, we were most grateful. 🙂

That’s right .

@Ty-Refail . Adult social services can arrange such equipment if you are under them or the Gp can refer you to the right department for nhs equipment.
When mum was alive we had loads of things on loan , including a hospital bed

Welcome to the forum @Ty-Refail
Sorry to hear about the difficulties you are having with your spine and other conditions.
I hope that you are able to get hold of a perching stool. I know my Mum found that very helpful.

One of my go to meals is ‘Friday Fridge Fritatta’. Eggs beaten with a tiny bit of mustard and pepper And some cheese. In a pan fry left overs, tomatoes, onion, left over veg, … from the fridge with a bit of paprika. Pour in the egg mix. Cook For a bit, and then put under the grill to cook the top.
A good meal at the end of the week

i look forward to reading other suggestions that are offered as new ideas are always good to gather.
