I'm really trying to eat the recommended daily fruit. As a child I had a fruit allergy and could only eat bananas. I grew out of this in my late teens but as I wasn't really used to it in my diet, I have never really developed a taste for it. Now that I am trying to include it in my diet I am noticing that it is causing my mouth to be sore when eating it followed by mouth ulcers. Does anyone else experience this?

Perhaps you have an allergy - but why are you trying to include it in your diet if you are a type two diabetic?

Dietician recommended 5 fruit and veg per day.
The reccomendation is at least 5 fruit and veg, but that can all come from veg it doesn’t need to be from fruit. I dislike fruit and the dietician said no problem as long as you eat a variety of veg you’ll get all the nutrients needed.

Hi. The five fruit and veg thing came from the California Fruit Growers association and is purely commercial so put it in context. Non-tropical fruit and veg are good for you but don't be obsessive about it. Bananas and similar are not good for diabetics.

That sounds brill to me. I've never been used to it in my diet and to be honest, I could really do without the mouth ulcers.

Thanks

Fruit really shouldn’t be giving you mouth ulcers, so it sounds like you do have some sort of reaction to it?

A variety of veg sounds much easier. One rule of thumb we picked up when the kids were small was that veg of different colours tended to have different vitamin/micronutrient components, so aiming for a variety of colours is probably helpful. 🙂
