Hi, can anyone advise what fruits I can use for a fresh fruit Salad to be had with natural yogurt for breakfast. I'm type 2 diabetic just in the throes of changing my diet.

Berries are good but you only want a handful: blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, red and blackcurrants, strawberries. I sometimes have 8 cherries or a kiwi and they seem to have been fine for me but may react differently for you. It's often the quantity that is the issue and a fruit salad may be more fructose than your body can handle in one go. You may want to consider avoiding grapes and tropical fruits while you get things sorted out as they contain more sugars that are more readily absorbed (higher GI).

Many people opt for a handful of frozen berries (bags around £2 from most supermarkets) and I've found these to be good too.

I'm sure that whatever you decide upon will be delicious!

I agree with @EllsBells.

Berries seem to be quite widely tolerated, but it’s a very individual thing

Melon might be OK in small portions, but it’s tricky to get through a whole one before it goes off if you are only having a bit at a time.

Apples and pears are OK for some people, but less so for others (a medium apple or pear is around 15-20g of carbs).

Many members do seem to do well with the frozen berry selections which seem to be a combination of tasty, bg friendly and practical.

It all seems to depend on how sensitive to carbohydrates your body is. Do you have a BG meter to be able to check before/after with a few experimental combinations?

Thank you both, I do use my bg machine usually 2hrs after breakfast and my evening meal. I like apples and pairs and the occasional banana. I'll try it with natural yogurt. I'm guessing if I don't have everyday it should be ok. Trial and error I guess.

I always have a few blueberries, couple of strawberries and a few raspberries. I then halve them and cover with plain yogurt. Yum.

Same as others have said, if I am haven’t a fruit salad I go for a small amount of melon, strawberries, raspberries snd blueberries. I don’t like apples and bananas etc anyway and favour berries and tropical fruits. I stay away from most tropical fruit though these days. Though I will sometimes have a passion fruit with it or a bit of mango but I haven’t tried that while I’ve been testing my levels do I don’t know how it would affect a person.

I'm not keen on blueberries or raspberries but I do like strawberries so maybe strawberry and apple with the yogurt. X

I wasn't either but in the past 2 weeks I've really started to like blueberries and I can taste the sweetness in them now. Bodies are weird things.

I got one of those 150g pots of melon (the orange coloured flesh - can't remember the name) the other day and had half for breakfast with no seeming ill effects and it made for a pleasant change.
