This just dropped into my inbox, talk about Christmas killjoys!
Also, bearing in mind the thrust of it seems to be avoiding spikes in my blood sugar, just how is choosing turkey over pork supposed to achieve this?
(Rant over, thank you for bearing with me)

turkey over pork must be because it has less fat, or no fat, which makes dosing more predictable when other carbs are digesting......thats all i can think it is...

I think they’ve just lifted a few bits from the Eatwell guide, relevant or not to blood glucose management,

I would always have turkey, it's Christmas!

But the worse thing i see is only a couple of roast tatties, i think they missed out the word dozen there.

I'm all for trying new things but pouring nuts over my mince pies isn't the same as custard or brandy butter or cream, or anything really...

😉

It’s Christmas!!!

I plan to enjoy the next few days and do the best that I can to avoid spikes, and account for the carbs.
Just had a pleasant walk home after a lovely meal at friends (although it chucked it down for the last five minutes). That sorted out the rather excellent chocolate torte. Well worth it, and already back in range.

Enjoy whatever you do @Robin and everyone else.

Swap Yorkies for veg & only 2 roast tatties, yeah right will do that.

Of all food look forward to cheese n biscuits on night most, bought some new cheeses to try, cheese messes up bag so pump will be nudged up overnight to compensate.

I don’t do that eatwell plate
On special occasions such as Christmas I think that old adage , a little of what you fancy does you good is appropriate, just don’t go too mad.
There are some naughty goodies in my cupboard and I’ll have one or two if I have any room for them after our tea of Christmas pud .

Completely agree with you @Ljc 🙂

Always have turkey wrapped in smoked streaky bacon 😛
I ament keen on Yorkshire puddings or roast potatoes so I just have a few boiled potatoes
I'll only be eating brussel sprouts as nobody else likes the others stated (I do but hey ho) so they have roasted carrots, I did try them my first year of diabetes but to me they tasted like pure sugar so not for me
Yule log for pud, I only eat pudding twice a year so needs to be a good one
I don't snack due to fear so I'm ok lol
xx

One year ONLY for a post Christmas gathering I made Brussels sprout and Stilton soup.
I love them both, and thought that sounded good. I made loads as we were 12 for supper.
It was awful. People politely took a little but quickly switched to the two others on offer.
There were bags of it in the freezer for a long while, but eventually they were abandoned after trying it watered down, as a base for other soups, ....

My promise to the band is not to make that for this year!!!
I am on making bread and soups is in other people’s hands.

Sorry but that's the best laugh I've had for a while.

Will probable eat nearly all that they advise against plus Baiileys, wine, Christmas pudding and best of all, I bet I wont spike and if I do hell its Christmas 🙂

Exactly! Anyway, I’ve been practicing with mince pies for weeks, just so I get it right on the day. One of my home made pies = 2 units of insulin, no spike. Sorted!

Gosh Robin - that was dedicated experimentation indeed! ROFL

As my Yorkshire batter is so hit and miss, we have the frozen bake it yourself variety - and they are only 5g carb and I have always assumed this must include the gravy, cos how else could one possibly consume them?

Well my mums batter was bootiful, mine is more miss that hit lol
But she always saved some for her and me for after we washed up, warmed up buttered and sprinkled with sugar and a nice cuppa to wash it down

Or add sultanas to the batter and serve hot with custard

No wonder I developed diabetes.

I'm with you lin. I used to eat left over yorkies warmed up with honey and cream (I'm a beekeeper, so you find interesting ways to use the produce). Yum!
Will be saving most of my carb allowance/insulin for a tiny taste of xmas pud I think and maybe some homemade chips on Boxing Day (I much prefer Boxing Day leftovers dinner to Christmas day dinner anyway) I no longer seem to enjoy roasties and yorkies all that much which is odd because other things that I rarely eat, taste fantastic.... like every bite of an humble apple seems like heaven to me now. I may have my cheese on slices of apple rather than biscuits this year.

I'm going to compromise tomorrow. It helps that I'm still getting over the lurg and got very little appetite yet. Yesterday I forced down breakfast and lunch but couldn't face dinner, so it's getting re-cycled tonight, although I don't feel like eating at present. And I couldn't face breakfast this morning, just a brunch of poached egg and mushrooms.
Tomorrow
B: Poached egg, grilled tomatoes
L: Prawn and smoked salmon salad
D: Turkey with all the trimmings, including roasties, sausage, bacon, stuffing, cranberry sauce. But no pudding, pies, sweets, biscuit or cake, because I expect to feel stuffed after dinner! Oh, and I forget - I will have a glass of white, and a calypso cocktail!
