My diabetes team recently gave me the option of a libre machine for free with a free sensor and I love it!

However, when it came to putting the second sensor on (my nurse did the first) it didn't stay for more that a few days.

I think I may have done a couple of things wrong but would love any of your hints and tips, firstly I did it directly after a shower and I forgot the alcohol wipe! Could these things alone affect it?? I can't wait to get my third to try again, but at £48 I want to make sure it's done correctly this time!

Thanks in advance

Sharon

Doing it directly after having a shower might be a cause of it not sticking, Abbott have replaced sensors that have fallen off on a case by case basis. I have not had a problem with the sensors falling off, some people use various tapes to stick over the sensor and arm. There is a libre group on Facebook if you use that that has tips and problem solving of what people use to put over or even between the sensor and arm to help it stick or help with allergy problems that they have with the glue Abbott use on the sensor.

Hi Sharon, great that you have the chance to use a Libre.
I had one fall out, and I think that post shower and not using the wipe could cause it to not stick.

I had one fall off but that was after a swim and then knocked it on door jam.
I now always put a Tegaderm dressing over the sensor to avoid any dropping out.
As you say at £48 a time we can't afford to waste any.

Did you call Abbott and let them know it had fallen off? They are usually pretty good at replacing them, from what I gather 🙂 I'm currently on my second, and the one thing I worry about most is it falling off! 🙄

The edges of the the glue pad tend to curl up a bit, mine were still firmly stuck after the fortnight, the knocking on the door is a favourite for dislodging them.

Another thing to try if concerned about it coming off, is part of an clean old sock or tubigrip around your arm and over the sensor.

Well. I needed a replacement after the first one as it lost its stickiness (I was sent a new one and actually it didn't fall off) so I'm loathed to ask for another incase they think I'm scamming! My nurse actually recommended the tagadem so I might buy some 🙂

Thanks for the responses. Much appreciated 🙂

Mine sticks firmly to me. But the one time it did come off was when I applied it shortly after a shower. I think I remember reading somewhere that you should apply it at least 12 hours after a shower. Something to do with natural body oils. Can't remember where I heard that thought.

I also like to hold the applicator in place with the sensor for about 20 seconds rather than pulling straight off
