Have recently been put on Insulin (T2). I am planning to use Freestyle Libre 2 soon.

When I travel:

1. Can I go through Airport scanners?
2. Should a spare CGM be put through Xray?

I will obtain the necessary Diabetic letter from my GP / Diabetic center.

Me and my Libres have been through airport scanners and X-rays many times without any issues.
I carry a letter from my endocrinologist when travelling as insurance fir insulin and needles but in twenty years, I have only had to show it once.
If you decide to take one, I recommend asking your diabetes centre as GPS tend to charge.

Civil Aviation Authority suggests "Passengers with a medical device such as an insulin pump or Continuous Glucose Monitoring system (CGMs) should not be screened by a security scanner; if they opt out of this they must be offered an alternative screening method.'

Also, how about the insulin pens? Should they be x-rayed?

I have never experienced any problems (in hundreds of flights) x-raying insulin pens.
In the past, my pens were metal which was identified once flying from Milan. Most pens are now plastic so are unlikely to show up in the x-ray.
The insulin and pen are completely unaffected by the x-ray.

For the CGM, do you tell the security that you are wearing one and cannot have a full body scan? Presumably you can walk through the "arch gate"? Also, if my CGM expires whilst on travel, the extra one (new) I carry in a box; how do I take it without being X-rayed?

Smart pens might be. (They'll still work for delivering insulin but the electronics might be harmed. I doubt it, but they could be.)
I have travelled with a smart pen with no impact.
However, as I have a pump, pens are only a back up and the battery expired a few years ago so I have not repeated the exercise.

Never told anyone, though one security person in Palma pointed to my Libre and invited me over for a scan with a hand-held device. But otherwise, I’ve been through full body scanners with Libre many times, and carried spares in both checked and cabin bags with no problem.
