Hi, there are a lot of problems with Abbott and android phones after they installed an auto-upgrade to the LibreLink app - without giving the user the chance to opt out, or a means of going back to their earlier version. They say they know and are working on it, BUT ......

Strangely, I had the reverse happen. I have a c.12 month old Samsung Galaxy A52S 5G [model variant A528B/DS] which arrived on android 11, upgraded to v.12 mid 2022 and promptly lost LibreView. Then in late Dec 22 a further upgrade to android 13 allowed LibreView to play again. Pretty frustrating as well as confusing! I happened to have a 4 Yr old phone I could revert to.

As it happens I also have the Abbott Freestyle Libre 2 Reader, a fairly small (easy in any pocket) device which I use as well as my phone. I have to scan the sensor with the reader first, then the phone - in order to have both devices active. But I like using the Reader: it is very forgiving, scans first time pretty well always (whereas my phone is tortuous - sometimes does first time but still takes ages to provide a reading, but usually needs several scans to get a reading - struggling to find the exact spot for the NFC function to work); the Reader is basic in relation to my smart phone, but scans while I'm walking and moving, also is generally less intrusive, eg while socialising or dining out. I use my phone for recording data such as carbs and insulin, along with any useful notes or written reminders and this gets transferred by wi-fi to the Web based LibreView, which provides visibility to my Consultant and the DSNs.

It might seem a faff, having 2 devices for taking scans; but that inconvenience is, for me, far outweighed by having the simple reliability and back up of the basic Reader. If you phone Abbott and tell them your phone is now incompatible, they will send you a Reader (free). At the very least worth trying?

I can confirm that if you contact Abbott, I did it via email, they will indeed send you out a reader free of charge, mine is on its way .

@Benny G has previously posted a link where you can download legacy versions of the Freestyle software for phones (at your own risk, of course!), so there may be an option to go back to a previous version if that is still compatible with your phone’s OS?
