Four berry mix at Lidl

I noticed large bags of frozen berries at a fairly cheap price in Lidl this week and having tried one pack it is actually berries, not all bits with one huge strawberry like their similar offering last year.
By mixing a sugar free jelly with several tablespoons of strong gelatine in cold water, then adding the hot water and ensuring it is all mixed in and dissolved (it can cling to the bottom of the bowl) mixing in the frozen fruit results in almost instant setting, but if the jelly is kept in the fridge the fruit doesn't go to a sad mush as it would do if just allowed to completely defrost on its own.

If you haven't got gelatine then I just put less water in so three quarters of a pint rather than 1 pint and add the frozen berries.
 
Can't get away with frozen berries, tried them few times but always go back to fresh, blueberries being fav.
 
Aldi also have frozen berries, mango, cherries, pineapple & smoothie mix. I have the frozen cherries with oats & fage 5% yoghurt, as overnight oats, delicious.

Unfortunately that would be far too many carbs for me, the result would be instant spiking.

Have you checked that your body can cope with that breakfast option by testing before and 2 hours after. The berries and perhaps cherries might be OK but mango and pineapple smoothie mixes would be pushing it for many Type2s, as a regular breakfast option even without the oats. Of course there are people who can get away with oats, but there are many people who just assume oats are good (following NHS advice 🙄 ) without testing, when that may not be the case in reality.

I only use the cherries, 20 grams of oats & face 5% yoghurt. The other fruits I mentioned are just an example if anyone likes them. Yes following NHS advice. I find it really confusing as to what is suitable, so much conflicting out there. I'm lost. Thanks for your help.
 
I only have 8 cherries, 20 grams of oats & yoghurt. Would it be OK if I cut out the oats?
It depends really - I go by how I react to meals, and as most grain is about 2/3rds carb, 20 gms of oats is getting on for 14gm of carbs - with fruit as well I suspect I'd be really eating into the 40gm of carbs maximum I try for as a daily limit.

I should be getting my blood test results soon so I am a bit twitchy about 'carb creep' at the moment thinking that it is so easily done.....

I'm afraid that following the NHS Eat Well plate is doing many people no favours as it is too high in carbohydrates as mentioned in this link for a program developed by a GP surgery for a low carb approach, https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
There are other fruits which are lower in carbs than cherries so you could have a more generous portion.
Carbs and Cals Book or app will give you comparisons of portions of fruits so easier to select something.

Thanks. I've looked on the https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/ app & they've got some great recipes & information on there. I really like all berries, unfortunately I can't eat them due to their seeds causing problems with my tummy. Been looking at the Carbs & Cals app too. I appreciate your reply.

You can buy gelatine sheets in a packet. You do need to soak 1st and then heat a little before combining

You can try mix seeds in the oats, sesame, chia, poppy, milled flax. I have a tub and mix a scoop in my oats

That is a shame, what about blueberries or water melon.
 
I do not follow the NHS advice due to their recommendation of high carbs. This diet really is for those who are not diabetic. I follow a reasonably low carb diet but live and eat. If I don’t eat enough proteins my number can go low and I don’t care for this at night. I’ve found eating the main meal at lunch May mean I don’t eat enough in the evening meal

I buy powdered gelatine online - it is expensive but a bag will last a long time.
 
In summer when things are fresh mostly put of garden raspberries at min are a treat. In winter i will try but used to like it in porridge. porridge of menu too at present so will see. Good to know its not all buts but i kinda liked them. Used to buy an odd mix at Tesco due to price.
