I've set up the forum on Twitter - follow us at DSForumUK I tried various other combinations of the words diabetes, support and forum, but they were already taken!:D

I thought it would be a good idea to tweet interesting threads and stuff and attract more members to the fold!🙂

twit twit 😉 great idea i ll join up xx

I'm not tweeting, nope, never, not no how, uh-uh.😱

Sorry, I don't do twitter or facebook either.

SMS and Skype yes.

That's OK guys, you don't have to - you're already here! The idea is to encourage others to look in if they haven't heard about us 🙂

Is it me or has the site got really busy and active today?

Is some of that something to do with Twitter? Or are we all just feeling sociable / in need of advice this week?

I'm not a twit at present - but I think I'd like to try it. How do I start, and do I get twits on my email, or go to a special website? In fact, how does it all work?

You just go to http://twitter.com/ and click on Join. When you've set up your account you start looking for people to follow so that you can read what they are tweeting about, or you can write your own tweets, which are messages up to 140 characters long. As time goes on people start following you too, although you can block them if you don't want them to. There's lots of other things like hashtags, which are a method of searching e.g #diabetes will find all the latest tweets that contain the tag #diabetes - might just be comments, or news, or blogs with links that you can read more on.

🙂

This is a remarkably busy site - I intend to post about just how busy tomorrow! 🙂

I'm now on Twitter! I've tweeted and someone's following me... scary or what? Does anyone know anyone good to follow?

I usually check them out and see what sort of tweets they've been making to see if they are legit. There are quite a few spam-style people who follow thousands of others but hardly ever tweet. If I'm suspicious and they don't appear to be 'real' people or organisations, I block them or, if appropriate, report them for spam.

I find a good way of finding people to follow is looking at who others are following. Comedians are a good place to start, as they are often followed by other comedians of similar ilk. Everyone follows Stephen Fry - he is Twittergod 🙂 Also, organisations or popular websites, newspapers etc. - you get headlines as a tweet and a link to the article.

thought you said that about fb ???
im in and tweeted x🙂

It is, it is indeed. But I really mean it this time. I'm bent on earning my official Luddite licence, so I won't be tweeting, no I won't. Really.
