A FORMER NHS hero of the year is retiring from her nursing role after 21 years.
Pam Williams, from Penketh, started her nurse training aged 38 after a career in finance and running a cleaning business.
Her first role in nursing was at Warrington Hospital on the surgical ward before moving to critical care and then palliative care. During this time she was named Warrington’s NHS Hero of the Year in 2008 by The Warrington Guardian.
She received the award for her work to set up an annual memorial service for staff and relatives to remember people who have sadly died on the ward in the previous 12 months.
The service still takes place annually.
