Somehow, I managed to completely forget to take my AM dose of Levemir mid morning, and have only just remembered now (5pm). By some kind of magic, my BGs are within range and have been all day, and I also thankfully have no ketones. Anyway, I take my basal 12 hours apart, so was due my evening dose of 5u around 10.30pmish - however, having had no basal for well over 12 hours now, I panicked and gave myself the 5 units now, with the thought process of waking myself up early tomorrow morning (in about 12hours time) to give myself my next dose, hoping to gradually make this a bit later as the days go on. Has anyone else found themselves in this situation? And if so what did you do, or what would you do? My concern is that I might start to go high later this evening, and whether I'll need to have some kind of basal dose again? I'm so confused! I've had type 1 for 20 years and I don't think I've forgotten my basal this late before....any thoughts would be great!

Hi @Kate_b I think you did right to take your evening basal early. That’s what I’d have done. I’d also set an alarm for midnight/1am or so to do a blood test to see how things were going.

What time do you normally have your morning basal?

Thanks @Inka - that makes me feel better! I normally take my AM dose around 10/10.30ish.

Yes definitely - I think I'll check it a couple of times throughout the night and keep an eye on it and hope it doesn't climb too much. Thank you!

You’re not the first nor will you be the last to do that, I’ve managed to do all sorts with my insulin, sometimes more than once o_O

As I have T2 with a semi conscious pancreas ,well it does wake up occasionally lol, I will leave the advise to the experts.

I think lots of testing will be in order.

@Kate_b Ok - well, this is just what I’d do: I’d try to get back to my normal times as soon as possible. So I’d split the difference so to speak and have the morning Levemir say at 7.30am tomorrow, then back to 10am the day after.

I’d test a couple of times during the night, get up in good time in the morning, and if I was too high at any point, I’d correct with my fast-acting insulin, being cautious especially if it was nighttime.

I’ve done similar years ago. It’s easily done. Just keep a close eye on things for the next day or two.

Thanks @Ljc ! I think you're right...ugh.

I like the quote, Diabetes has no memory.
We have all made mistakes, done silly things muddling pens, ...
Tomorrow is another day.
