i was so tired last night that at 8pm ish i went for a lay down, have just woke up which means i didt take night time meds (6mg risperidone,10mg temazepam,40mg simvastatin, 40mg paroxetine) and of course 120units insartard insulin. Not to worried about the tabs more the insulin. have rung nhs direct and a docter will ring me back within the hour why do i screw up.

Gail don't be too hard on yourself - as you said you were very tired.

If you search the forums you will find you are not the only one who forgets from time to time - many ask on here for advice.

You should be proud of yourself for calling NHS Direct - it means that you are trying to take care of yourself.

Hope they get back to you soon - and sending you hugs.

word of advice to peeps dont use nhs direct, you are better off calling your own out of hours gp

I heard the NHS direct just employ un-trained call centre operatives and they just read off a list!! great !!! 😱

Gail - I hope you found someone to give you advice. If a Dr hasn't called you back could you try a drop in centre - you could get seen faster than with an out of hours service. My 80 something FIL had to wait 8 hours once - and we rang several times to chase them up - we were just on the verge of taking him to the hospital when they turned up.

no a docter did not call me back i called nhs back and got told a docter will call you within the hour again. So i did what i should have done in the first place and called the out of hours docters service. A docter rang me within 10 minutes, a very nice man indeed. He told me not to worry about the tablets, to take them as normal tonight. As for the insulin as my bs is hi again hes told me to take a set extra amount on top of what i normally take tonight and then carry on as normal. Any issues to call them back

I am glad you managed to speak to a Dr.

Just when you have forgotten say 9:00pm you will get a call from the other Dr..........

But I am encouraged that you are taking the initiative to get the answers you need.

That's odd - I've only had to ring em twice and they were brilliant each time - very efficent actual nurses both times who seemed nearly as 'with it' as my DSN at the hosp!

I'll NEVER ring them again either!!!😡

They gave us the completely wrong answer when we phoned them on Saturday to ask if Carol could possibly have Diabetes. Carol could have died!!!!

My neighbour works for NHS Direct. She isn't a nurse, but used to be a health care assistant and at one point in her life ran a care home. I've had to put her right on a couple of things about diabetes when we've been chatting. One thing she told me was that they are 'monitored' like in a commercial call centre and get told off if they spend too long on calls. I almost rang them when I was diagnosed but couldn't find the number (my brain was in a state!) so I rang 999 instead.

Gail, I hope you've got through the day OK and that your levels come down to a good number. From what I've gathered from people's experiences here, the usual approach is to work out how many hours you've missed, work out an hourly rate, and then give a reduced dose to last you until your regular injection.

i have just had a call back from nhs gp just told him i was sorted. i shal not call them again if i can help it.
bs a wee bit hi but thats to be expected ps i have had a can of full fat coke it was good but so bad im hitting that i dont care about the diabetes wall again i know thats bad so bad

Didn't I say they would call back but I was a bit late I predicted 9pm.

Your sugars are bound to be running high - with the missing basal. Hope that tomorrow when you get up all will be back on track.

Same experience here, ive had to ring them on both occasions and both times I could not fault them.

I pretty much did the same as you Gail,i stayed up all night but got so tired i went to bed this morning although i asked hubby to wake me at ten so i could take my pils and take my insulin but it was gone eleven when he eventualy got me up, so i just did'nt bother taking my brekki or lunch time doses, not the most inteligent thing i have done but luckily have'nt been above 9 all day.
Im so glad you eventualy got the help you needed though, remember tomorrow's a new day so we can put right what we did wrong today🙂
Carole
