Forgot to take Lantus

i am 90% sure I forgot to take my 16 units of lantus this morning and wondering what to do! Do I take the full amount now? Anyone else ever done this?

How have your levels been through the day, have they been higher than expected? The normal advice is to take a proportionate amount, according to how many hours you have missed. However if your levels aren't too bad then it might be best to just check in the night and have small corrections if necessary

Thanks for writing, managed to scare myself so much. I have been lower than normal all day. So maybe best to just take half the dose and keep checking numbers

If you've been lower then that would imply that you didn't miss the dose. Given that your waking levels have been on the low side lately, if you did inject, and then add an extra 8 units then that would be potentially dangerous. What are your levels like now? Are you able to contact your DSN?

Not stupid JO, ~ you've had a lot on with work and travelling almost the length & breadth of the UK recently ~ you're probably mentally drained & tiredness plays tricks on the mind. I can't imagine what you're going through ~ but if you're not sure what to do then perhaps ring A&E or 111 before you do anything. Better to be safe than sorry. Hope you can solve this whichever way soon. Wish I could help but as you know I'm not in a position to do so, I'm sorry, good luck x

Blimey Jo...you must be in turmoil...no ideaw hat to suggest...see you've been given some sound advice...hope that balances things out...if you are really worried you could always try ringing your out of hours service...actually...why not just give them a call...or the 111 number...let us know how you are.

I've done this too, best to call 111 to check, I rang my DSN (it was a week day) and I'm sure she said to take half the dose, but my levels were 10+.

Yes, please do check through the night - set those alarms! It's a pain, but better to stay safe. Let us know how things go, and try not to worry. Keep some jelly babies to hand 🙂 It's only when we do something like this that we realise we don't have a plan worked out!

I've done this too! I just ignored it and took it at normal time next day, and upped my Bolus a bit during the day. I find that because Lantus tends to hang around in the system for quite a long time, it didn't actually affect my levels too much. Having said that, I only need a smallish dose ( 7.5 units per 24 hrs)
If you think you might not have missed it though, and have now doubled up, as others have said, keep the jelly babies handy and check through the night!

I will check for sure, wishing I had not taken the extra dose and didn't live alone but sure I will be fine. Do you think every two hours is enough?

That would explain why my levels have been normal today. I will be checking through the night with jelly babies by my bed,
