Hi all so as some of you recall i was having serious difficulties with my condition and poor treatment from my supposed diabetic nurse. Well i ended up in hospital with a severe infection and surgury on an abcess the size of a fist and even when nil by mouth was having levels of 19 finally things are changing. My sugar levels are still in the high 20s and 30s so i have now had my case taken over by a specialist dr in diabetes at my surgury and it was said i was started on insulin to early which has now complicated my condition. I have been sent for blood tests to check my kidneys as there are questions being raised on their function after being hyperglycemic for such a long period and i am now on metformin 2000mg a day, mix insulin 24 units am 26 pm and sitagliptin 50mg daily. They are trailing this until i see the dr in 3 weeks. He has said he will refer me but feels i need treatment sooner as refereals are currently running into months waiting for an appointment. He said there was a question over the type of diabetes i am suffering from they are saying type 2 but a complicated form but they will be investigating this further in the new year. Thank you all for your on going support and advice thought id share with those who stood by me through all the drama fingers crossed we see results!!

Hi Sammi, good to hear from you again 🙂 Sorry to hear about the difficulties you have experienced :( However, it is good to hear that things have moved up a notch on the treatment and care you are receiving 🙂 Awful that you need to wait so long for a referral appointment, it's clear that your situation is serious and you shouldn't have to wait so long to be seen. I hope that your current treatment regime improves your levels and that 2018 is the year things really turn around for you and you manage to get things under good control, and feeling much healthier and happier as a consequence 🙂

Im hoping so. Prey there hasnt been any long term damage. I had my eyes checked thankfully they are ok my vision is obviously still being affected at the moment. I just cant wait to spend a day with a mouth like the desert, drinking about 9 bottles of water a day and not getting up every 3 hours in the night for a wee!! Sadly as alot of people mentioned it took me being hospitalised for them to act but the gp i see today is lovley and the diabetes dr offered lots of advise to him for me and told him to get an appointment booked with him to sort things. I feel like a weight has been lifted. I know this new regime may not work for me but at least they are trying something. On the upside well it not a good thing in some respects but i have gone from 17 stone 4 to 14 stone 3 sadly this has mainly been down to ketones but im not going to lie the weight loss has been welcomed shame it had to come about this way though lol x

Welcome back Sammi, hope they get you sorted out soon.

Hi Sammie. Welcome back.

I really hope you can now finally get the care you need.

Becky

Sorry you had to go through that to get better treatment :(. Hopefully things will now start to look up and they can sort your treatment out and you start to feel better soon. Here's to 2018!

In situations like this, I sometimes wish that doctors would take a proper history and look at the blood results with an open mind. Far fewer people would be messed about. I doubt that you are any sort of Type 2, they just think you ought to be because you are 30. You are just a slow growing Type 1, which is a fairly typical onset in later years. You’ll feel a lot better when you ditch all these tablets and get on a proper MDI insulin regime. You’d think they’d twig when all these tablets don’t work.

Best of luck in the New Year for finding a specialist with some sense.

I'm sorry to hear you've been messed about so much, I feel fortunate that when I first went to A&E I was treated as type 1 immediately, even before the test results were in. I hope you get the correct treatment soon.
