Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi everyone. I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 16,(26 years).
For the last week I have had intermittent vibrations in the sole of my left foot. More in the heel area. I spoke to my diabetes specialist nurse who advised me to contact my GP for an appt in case it is nerve related.
I phoned my GP surgery(receptionist) this morning who said it isn’t classed as a medical emergency so the earliest I can speak to someone is Monday! So now i just continue to worry that I’ve got nerve damage until I “speak” to someone Monday. And even then it won’t be face to face.

Any advice please with regards to my foot? Any exercises which I could do to help?
Many thanks

Could you ring 111 and see if a dr will call you back? I don't really know if it would be classed as urgent or not, but being diabetic might mean they prioritse you? I haven't had a great deal of experience with 111 myself but I do know of people who have been given medication etc quicker than they would have been if they waited for the drs. I was only diagnosed on Monday, so you have 26 years more experience of being a diabetic than me! 😛

Welcome to the forum @Blueberry14

Sorry to hear you’ve been left a few days until you can speak to someone :(

Long term complications tend to emerge quite slowly, so while I absolutely understand your worries (and share them with many twinges I get) I hope you can relax a little as not much will be different by Monday (or perhaps even next month!)

Have you had routine sensitivity and pulse checks done as part of your annual reviews over the years?

The last time I asked about a sensation in my legs, it was suggested to me that nerve damage usually develops on both sides at the same time - so a sensation on one side was unlikely to be neuropathy. Hope that is the same for you.

As the years tick by with diabetes the possibility of emerging nasties certainly begins to loom, doesn't it :(
