where i live have a podiatrist come every 6 weeks had my first check 3 weeks ago if u can call it that she didt check my feet or want to know wot meds i was on she had been told i was diabetic and that was it she cut my nails my question is this is it worth getting someone else i dont mind paying more than she cost after all my feet are mine to look after and treat well what do u think?

A podiatrist (used to be called a chiropodist) won't be checking the same things as a diabetic foot check which would test for feeling in your toes and the circulation in your feet using a Doppler whereas what the podiatrist is doing is make sure your feet are in general good condition and as you say trim your nails. They will take note that you are diabetic as they need to be careful not to be too aggressive with the clippers as any damage potentially will be more prone to infection and be slow to heal.
I had my foot check with the diabetic nurse and mentioned I had a problem with my toe nail and she just said you need to see the doctor for a referral to podiatry.
