I was been diabetic since i was 7 years old, on saturday i turn 24. Last sunday i was rushed to hospital after apparently having a hypoglycaemic fit, first time i have ever required help.

The doctors have lowered all of my insulin and have given me some guidance, but the trouble im having at the moment is my tongue, the doctors said that when i was fitting i must have bit down on my tongue (a common thing) and its very very sore.

Can anyone suggest any foods that are easy to eat for breakfast and lunch in particular, that are easy to eat?

Hi Alex and welcome to the foru.

Sorry to hear of your hospital admission - I hope that the Drs/ DSNs have given you some good advice over changing insulin. Do you carb count ? If not then learning may help. If you do them what mt DSN says is to recheck your ratios from time to time as they can change.

In terms of a sore tongue. - I would stay away from acidic food as that might sting. Could you try soups or soft foods? Its only a guess.

I have moved your post to the newbies section as more people are likely to see it there and give you a response (plus a welcome).

Hey.
Thanks for your concern but im doing much better now. I was shown carb counting about 5 years ago but i have to say i was never given a very good insight into it, however now the nurse has given me a refreshed knowledge and confidence in her which is helping alot. We have lowered all my insulin by one hell of alot and my bloods have been better, still getting a few lows but i think thats more down to the fact that im struggling to eat alot with my tongue being so sore. Ill get there!

Thanks for the advice, soup for lunch i think!

Hi Alex. I used to fit sometimes with severe hypos and know the exact feeling. I'd sometimes wake in the morning and the only clue to a night hypo would be the sore tongue and a trickle of dried blood. 😱

My dad said it was a wonder I didn't bite through it. On one occasion he made the mistake of putting his finger in my mouth. That too was sore for a couple of days. 😱

Thankfully I haven't fitted for about 15 years, so as long as your control improves, you should be ok.

I can't remember what I used to eat but I think just soft, easy foods like sandwiches and soup, as suggested.

Best thing you can do is to test at least 5 or 6 times a day before and after meals and write all tests and carbs down so you can see where your highs and lows are and what may be causing them.🙂

Hi Alex,
sorry to hear about your problems.
Soup, ice cream, porridge? Would they help.
Perhaps try some mouth ulcer gel on your tongue as well this will help to numb it a bit and rinse with some warm salty water will also help in the healing for you.

Cool items, such as ice cream, frozen fromage frais, yogurt etc. Soft foods / liquids, as long as they're not salty or acidic should be OK eg avoid fruit juice, salty soups etc.

Agree that rinsing / gargling, with warm salty water, then spitting out, after eating might help until wound are clean.

Welcome to the forum Alex 🙂

Can't really add to what's already been said but hope that the wound heals soon x
