apologies in advance if this is a repeated question.

Was only diagnosed with hope 2 yesterday and am still trying to understand everything. Have just been shopping to get some veggies etc but what do I need to look at? Amount of total carbs per 100g or sugars?

Thank you

Thank you

Your body will quite quickly turn the other starchy carbs into glucose, so it is the total carbohydrates that are important. This is why bread and potatoes and pasta and rice are also problematic for us diabetics. They don't contain much sugar but the complex starchy carbs get broken down by our digestive system and in fact eating something sweet that contains sugar will spike your BG level very quickly but it is equally quickly gone, whereas starchy carbs from bread etc cause your Blood Glucose to spike for many hours, so they can be worse than sugar in some respects!
