blood sugar has gone too high 16.mmol

not had dinner yet,

When should I get worried how high? and what should I do? Bearing in mind its Sunday.

My eye sight seems ok.

Battery on monitor shows low, changed the AAA battery and battery still shows low I have the Nexus.

Any advice and tips appreciated.

Happy New Year one and all.

Difficult to know what to suggest as you are on Metformin which from my understanding does not directly lower BG, but works by suppressing glucose output from the liver and improves the body’s ability to use its own insulin.

Perhaps call NHS 111 for advice?

As for the BG meter have you tried another battery in case that one’s a duff? Or checked the contacts to make sure they are clean and making good connections?

thank you everyday 🙂 Alan I did try 2 different batteries, will check contacts too, I have just eaten so will test again in 2 hours. I may try a walk video too to help bring it down more.

thanks for always being here 🙂 🙂

Prednisolone will be the cause of your high blood sugars :( Steroids have a nasty habit of causing massive blood sugar rises. All you can do is to keep your carb level as low as you can whilst on them to help you keep them down.
Hopefully numbers will be down once you stop the pred and are feeling better.

Ok so at 6.45 am BG was 5.7
Before breakfast at 9.40 it was 6.0 mmol on only water.
2 hours after breakfast and prednisolone BG is 9.8 mmol mmmmmm
Going to exercise before lunch then take again.

Hi Jodee,
your blood sugars will go up and be their highest around lunch time when on pred, so simple solution until you have finished the course is to make sure you choose vey carefully the amount of carbs you eat.

Thanks Sue

I just did short walk round block and some household jobs and just measured before lunch, down to 8.6 mmol. Guess there will be a rise after lunch. I am hungry. I will keep updating, even if just for my own records, it may be useful to others at a later date.

not good 20.3 mmol 3 hours after lunch, have call in to 111 medics. paramedics coming to check me over
going to try exercise now.

Paramedics arrived, BG was coming down to 14.8 and tested on my monitor 20 mins later it was down to 13.5mmol so things ok, now gonna eat, that will put it up but hopefully still lower than 20 mmol.

Told to check in with my own doc tomorrow morning, check BG again before bed, if unwell through the night, (BG high), excessive thirst, sweating, unwell phone 111 service again.

So that's it for now. 27.3mmol apparently is the really dangerous zone, but would have a lot more symptoms by then. But just don't want to get anywhere near to 27.3.

Take care everyone especially on prednisoloe.

Having a small portion of chicken, half medium potato and cabbage for dinner, I shall be hungry again later no doubt.
