Flu jabs?

Well went to surgery for my bloods and physical Diabetes checks, I could not find the door I had to ring and the receptionist had to direct me to the right door and let me in, this was a staff entrance round a corner i never knew was there.
I was directed to the waiting room to sit there were only 6 very well-placed out chairs where there are normally at least 24 that have little space between. There was only one other person in the waiting room.
I asked about flu jabs said it was still being thought through but will get a text to make appointment.

That’s interesting @PhoebeC I’ve got my telephone appt soon and the hospital said not to worry too much about bloods as lots of people were having problems getting them done or weren’t keen. Now I’m wondering whether to bother trying at my surgery. I’d rather avoid any risk, I think.

Were you told you had to have them done?
Well because of the issues I have had since my last appointment in March I think I need them actually.
For the hospital appointment she said if I could get them done then I should as she agrees with me on the issues I have had.
For my doctors appointment (the doctor booked not me) when I phoned to see what it was about she said there was a note requesting I get bloods done.
So I don’t think I had to have them done but I think 3 of us including me think it’s probably best to.

I will ask about the jab, but I don’t mind tecso really

I am also having my bloods done at the surgery. Deep breath. Went to pick up my meds today, parmacist hangs out of the open window. Queue on ramp to use intercom to enter surgery was by no stretch of the imagination socially distant. Then the intercom didn't work, the doors couldn't open, queue was getting longer. Then someone inside locked the doors... the Senior Partner rocked up, took a look the queue and shrugged his shoulders. The practice is home to eye screening for the area and people who had appointment letters, were also unable to get in. My blood test is 9.50am, believe me, I will be there 9.47 and keeping my distance.

Completely understandable 🙂

I haven’t decided about the flu jab. I’ve heard nothing yet from the surgery. I don’t usually have it done but I’m in two minds this year.

Maybe I'm a concrete thinker, but I'll just wait for a notification about flu jabs. When I'm notified I'll presumably get instructions from the surgery, which I will follow. The only caveat is I can't go if it's raining for fear of short circuits in my personal transport.

That said, with lockdowns over the Southern Hemisphere, and still persisting in the Northern, nobody has any idea which winter flu variety (if any) is doing the rounds. So which vaccine do we get?

This is what we should be getting, apparently. I’m none the wiser.

Thing is it it had to be ordered at the beginning of the year i understand.

Personally I would have it done unless you are avoiding other people completely.

I can only speak for my surgery when I went for my blood test a few weeks back. They had all the seats socially distanced and people were asked to wear face coverings. I was not perturbed at all.

Just seen a message on my Surgery website , they are not having drop in flu vaccine sessions this year, and Flu Sessions will be limited to 4 patients in the waiting room at a time.

I received a text after my previous post inviting me to book my Flu Vaccine. Tried on and off since to get through to surgery, kept getting engaged tone , unusual as I usally get held in a queue or last couple of months straight through. Called about half an hour ago and got straight through mine booked for mid September, at the surgery that is currently closed for normal service. I was not surprised as I thought they may use for vaccines.

Haven't heard anything from the surgery, last year they didn't bother to contact me ans when I contacted them all the slots had gone. So I went to.Boots, will go to Boots this year.

People complaining on a local village facebook group about how long it took to get through at the GPs to book a Flu Jab on either number listed on a letter they had received. Haven't received any notification so rang standard appointment number. Got through first time and have a flu jab appointment for 26 September. They are working Saturdays to do Flu jabs. Meet outside main door no more than 5 minutes before appointment time, wear your own mask. Would love to know what they are doing Monday thru Friday as they are still not seeing patients face to face, there is no diabetic support, and bloods are done elsewhere.

I haven’t heard anything yet but imagine it will be appointments only and the numbers carefully controlled like @grovesy describes above.

Mine is booked for Sept 19th at surgery. I think its better to have it because we can't always control where we go and whom we come into contact with. Someone will wait outside for me with my coat and bags and I will basically go in with arm bared and get out as fast as I can. I had to go last week for bloods, foot check etc. I was very anxious but it had to be done.

Sort of defeats the object visiting doctors surgery at this moment in time. All the anti- social behaviour ( in a nice way) we have self imposed on ourselves, only to be undone by some prick! Think i'll swerve the gp's and get the prick at the chemists!
