Flu jab and blood sugars

Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all, I had my flu jab yesterday and my bloods are behaving pretty erratically this morning. Has anyone else had this? I'm trying to work out if it's because I'm feeling a bit under-the-weather from the jab or if my pump infusion site is dodgy.

I had several erratic BG days after my Flu and pneumonia vaccine a few weeks ago and at least one other person on the forum reported similar issues.

I can’t say if it was really connected at all, but I had unexpected blood sugars in the teens for three afternoons on the trot, a few days after my flu jab. I also had crashes in the night after the high afternoons, which suggests to me that it was my liver pumping out extra glucose, not a dosing error, and the liver was then replenishing stocks overnight.

My blood sugars rose after my jab.
I was feeling fine once I increased my basal - had the same amount of energy as usual, no aches, able to concentrate, ... just needed more insulin.

I find it depends on how much swelling & pain I get in my injection site as some years it’s minimal & other years it has swelled a lot needing ice packs: a throbbing ache & a bit of swelling on the evening of & day after vaccine this year so, only the next morning waking blood sugars were high & a little bit higher throughout that next day with a small increase of bolus insulin with the same basal; some years, in the past, swelling & whole arm hurts for up to a week needing ice packs & increased blood sugar readings that need both bolus & basal increases!

Thanks for your responses everyone, I'll try upping my basal rate a fair bit for a day or so until things seem normal again

My levels also went up after the flu jab last Saturday, and it has taken until today for them to settle down again.
No other reactions though.

Yup - my BG always goes up after the jab each year - presumably my body reacting/trying to fight it. It passes after three or four days but well worth frequent testing and potential correction doses.

Thank you All. Mine have been misbehaving and I had not thought to link it to my jab as I have not felt any ill effects. And to think I was blaming the Diabetes Fairy again!!
