Hi there,

Well I got the results of my first T2D review, mixed feelings.
HbA1c was 92 in November its now 42, so that a good one I think.
Cholesterol also down from 7.2 to 5.1
Weight also down from 112kg to 95kg = 2.6stone that’s a big one.
BMI gone from 37 to 31.4
Kidneys, eyes and feet also all ok.

Blood Pressure that’s a different story, it was 140/82, back in Nov, and that was as I’m sure you know high, the nurse checked the other day and it was, can’t believe this 204/109. So, after all that hard work, and mostly everything going the right way the BP result being pitched high out the park is somewhat depressing, not to mention disappointing. T2D won’t kill me out right, but BP measurements like this could.

Is there anyone else out there have an issue like this?

Hi PhilG. Your B/P is alarmingly high! When I suffered a fall in town two years ago - a paramedic attended me and as I had a Systolic B/P of 200 and then 215 - (I can't recall the Diastolic number) I was rushed to hospital 😱
I trust you are receiving the correct reatment for your high blood pressure.
All your other stastics are good so well done there Phil.

If I was you, frankly I'd nip into a pharmacy somewhere and ask them to do your BP unless you have access to a BP monitor yourself - cos it sounds very 'rogue' to me - unless actually you really are about to drop dead. I don't understand why on earth she let you go home without a doctor checking you out TBH !

Did they recheck your BP.
Well done on the other results.
Good question grovesy - I hope PhilG wasn't allowed to leave the surgery without his B/P being checked again - and again if necessary.
WL x

You're causing us concern @PhilG - how are you - are you alright?
Please let us know how you are.

Hi, yes very high indeed. the Dock and nurse re tested about 6 times on the day, and again 3 time 4 days after, it was again high but not as high as it was. I did got out and get a home test monitor, and am using it at home, my BP home results are better but still somewhat high. The doctor doubled my BP meds and I have to go back tomorrow to see the nurse. it is quit worrying.

Hi,
I'm just worried, I feel fine, its just the results.
thanks

I will confirm the results of tomorrows visit to the nurse, and my latest BP numbers. Home test 1/2 hour a go was 186/72 pulse 82.

Thank goodness you've been in touch Phil - pleased to see your B/P is slowly dropping 🙂 you caused us a bit of a worry to say the least!
(My B/P in March at my pre-op assessment was 141/62) if that's anything to go by - but we are all different.
Hope there's more improvement by tomorrow Phil, good luck.

I take it you were already on BP medication. Some people are just prone to high BP but for it to suddenly increase they should investigate.

Well done on your Hba1c and drop in Cholesterol.

Hi,
Yes I was on meds before, this sudden rise seem to be something to do with all the changes lately, BG, Weight, Diet, etc. o, and the headaches are not great either, anyway, we'll see what happens tomorrow. thanks.

Thank you, for your concerns..

When my bp went to 200 over summat they had me in for a week and then put me on hbp meds...before that I was just on a betablocker. My bp is always high and I'm supposed to measure it daily but I won't because I'll be afraid to move! Hope you get yours under control. I'm thinking mine will go down if I could just lose about six stones. :D

Hi PhilG,
My diabetes diagnosis was made while I was at the doc. for high BP problems. My systolic number was wavering anywhere between 130 and 190. I'm on one tablet Lisinopril 10 mg. It seems to be working ok but not ideal and I'm getting to grips with my diabetes with Metformin and low carb diet. I'm really interested in how you got your cholesterol down as my D nurse wants me to start on statins which I'm reluctant to do.

Very odd indeed to do that Phil - how strange.

Although, you know - the effect of drugs can sort of, wear off sometimes - and there are a lot of BP alternatives that might work better (or worse LOL) than whatever you take at the moment. Will be interesting to see whether just increasing the doses of whatever, does the trick. Hope so! having spent 18 months trying to get off Losartan we didn't find anything else that reduced my BP or didn't have horrific side effects so they've resigned themselves to my still taking Losartan and my having wavering blood sodium levels. (It's never horrifically high - or at least it hasn't been so far - said she clutching the ash desk under the keyboard LOL)

@Browser - reducing carb consumption often has the nice side effect of reducing cholesterol levels - so it can be doubly beneficial to do so for diabetics - or indeed, anyone else !

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my reasonably good diet will put my cholesterol numbers in a downward direction. The 'medics', including my daughter, who's a GP, toe the party line and recommend statins but I'm reluctant to succumb.

I take 1 x 300mg Irbesartan daily and 1 x 240g Securon SR daily to keep my blood pressure under control - works for me - but everyone is different so what suits one may not suit another.
