Morning, what a beautiful day, I've just done my first am reading and it's at 10 is that ok. Not eaten anything yet, just brushed my teeth lol ty

10 is higher than you want it to be (4-7 is the range to aim for) but if you are just newly diagnosed and learning how to improve your diet that is to be expected and morning fasting readings are often the most stubborn to come down so you have to be patient and work on reducing the rise caused by food your eat. Once you learn to keep your meal rises to less that 3 mmols ie. the difference between the before and 2 hours after eating readings, then you should see the fasting readings start to come down into range.

This was my dinner 7 carbs, isn't your body a weird thing, ty I have a lot to learn

Thinking to much protein maybe sorry if I'm annoying
No posts are ever annoying. This place is for each of us to use as best suits our needs after all.

And welcome!

You have to understand that your liver is able to manufacture glucose and is slowly trickling it out when you are not eating to keep your vital organs fueled... so heart, lungs and brain etc even when you are sleeping, so your morning reading is not a reflection on your evening meal. That is why it is important to do a before and 2 hours after test with meals to judge their impact. Beyond that time range there are too many other factors which affect your levels.

There are two phases of insulin release by the pancreas. An initial response to food hitting the stomach switches off the liver glucose production and releases stored insulin from the pancreas. The second phase is where the pancreas ramps up production to cover any shortfall required for a meal and deal with what the liver is producing at other times. This second phase needs communication between the liver and pancreas to balance things. Carrying fat around these organs can mean that their ability to work together in harmony to maintain the balance is compromised and perhaps the pancreas is not getting the message to produce enough insulin or the liver is releasing more glucose than required. One of the ways in which the medication Metformin works is to discourage the liver from producing quite so much glucose. Not sure if you are on Metformin or some other medication or trying to do this just through lifestyle changes, but I think it helps to understand what is going on so that you don't get frustrated when you don't see immediate results. Obviously losing that fat is important and it can be surprising how even relatively normal weight people can carry fat there. After I lost mine I realised that it had been making my whole upper body stiff so that bending down to tie shoe laces etc had become difficult because that big solid mass of fat and organs was blocking me. It feels good to have rid of it even though I wasn't really that aware of it pre-diagnosis.

Anyway, I hope that helps you to understand. It is a very complex system so my lay persons description will not be totally accurate but hopefully give you an idea of what is going on.

Hope you are able to use your BG meter to help you discover a menu that suits you and supports your BG levels 🙂
