Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I have a question. I have Type 1 and back in January I experienced a Hypo which hospitalised me. I awoke at 6am got out of bed and could not walk, could not talk and my face was paralysed. I was taken to hospital by ambulance with the thinking at the time I might have had a mini stroke - it turns out it was a hypo even though my blood sugar was 3.2 - have had that reading before with no symptoms.

Would like to hear from others if they have experienced the same symptoms - my doctors does not appear to have any idea why or how this happened. Since my hospital visit my blood sugar has been very unstable (it was very stable before).

Any insights from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing other posts and contributing to this forum.

Hi Katherine, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your bad experience with the hypo, that must have been frightening :( I wonder if what happened was that you actually went much lower than 3.2 in your sleep, and it was your liver that eventually reacted by releasing some of its stores of glucose and starting to raise your levels? Although your levels may have increased from their lowest point, it may have been that your brain was still recovering from the low.

Have you been diagnosed long? What insulin regime are you on?

Thanks for your reply. I am Carb counting - on NovoRapid (amount depends on Carbs) and 20 units of Lantus at night.

That's pretty much what I used to be on, although I had to lower my lantus considerably after about 10 months after diagnosis, from 20 to 9 units because I was dropping low a lot. What sort of levels do you normally go to bed on and wake up with? Have you tried testing overnight (3 am is thought to be the time when our levels generally are at their lowest)?

Hi and welcome 🙂

Just wondering if they for certain ruled out anything else or did they just put your symptoms down to the hypo because of the reading ? Did you undergo any further investigations ?

Hi Kath, i bet that was a bit scarey ! Not knowing what has gone on being the worst part ? Every time i have a bad hypo i give myself a hard time !! Life is not ment to be easy is it ! Good luck finding out what went on 😎
