The way I see it, I only see it being of help in those with still functioning beta cells. For those of us without, it would, presumably, prevent rejection of stem cell created beta cells being injected. Bit more work needed, I think.

A lot more LOL - but it's far too early to tell of course. Interesting possibility though, for the future. Although, another one I won't be holding my own breath awaiting.

Hi Mike,
I was always under the impression it isn't the fact that the beta cells aren't working, it's the fact that the body is constantly attacking them, stopping them from doing their job? Hence that's how the TB vaccine works by stopping that attack.

That was my understanding too, one researcher likened it to the body playing Whack-a-mole with beta cells.

Hi Lucy,
Still no word on the amazing potential for the TB vaccine, it's all gone quiet on such an amazing discovery.

That perhaps suggests that the early positive results were either not repeatable, or scalable, or the promise fizzled out in some other way? (haven’t read the story... but have read many similar instances of early Next Big Thing tech or treatment studies which begin with great promise that evaporates when attempts are made to take things to the next / commercial level) :(

Mike,
Wouldn't it be nice if these headline grabbing stories were followed up...

I tend to take any of this Medical breakthrough headlines with a sack of salt. As many never come to fruition.
