Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello everyone I’m dave newly diagnosed with diabetes just out of hospital from beating covid ( just about )

Welcome to the forum Dave from a fellow T2.

Hi and welcome from me too.

Sounds like you have had a rough ride if you have been hospitalized with the virus. Hope you are feeling a bit better now despite your Diabetes diagnosis. Do you think you may have had undiagnosed diabetes before the virus or has the virus perhaps triggered it?
What if any medication have you been given to manage it?
Have they indicated whether it might be Type 1 or Type 2?

The important thing to understand is that both types of diabetes are able to be well managed with the right treatment which can be anywhere from a change of lifestyle (diet and exercise) to insulin therapy. The are quite a few of us here on the forum who feel that our diagnosis was the kick up the pants we needed to change our unhealthy ways and start a new and improved lifestyle, maybe lose a bit of weight and get more active. I was diagnosed 20 months ago and I am currently fitter than I have been for 20, maybe even 30 years and I have seen an improvement in other health issues as a result of my dietary changes and weight loss, so there have been some significant benefits once you learn how to manage it. I also still enjoy my food (and a little drink occasionally) and find my diet easy to maintain, but it is quite different to the food I used to eat.
Hope that gives you some encouragement. If you can give us a bit more info about your diagnosis we can be more specific with advice.
