I have just got back from a friend's 70th birthday lunch. I was sat next to someone who was pat of the team that researched, developed and trialled that first ever human insulin. She was explaining how they had found that people developed resistance to the animal insulin. So interesting to hear about her early research, and what's a coincidence.

Yep - they did build up resistance so it became like injecting water. Usual thing was to swap porcine for bovine or vice versa, but once they invented so-called 'human' insulin, you got swapped to that instead. Not a happy time for me!

TG for analogues I say.

Aye, TW, I remember well my mum switching from animal insulins to human. It's when I first learned how to treat hypos, which came thick and fast for a wee while till things got evened out,

I still use bovine insulin 🙂

I know a lady on the pork insulin. Anything else makes her ill! That stuff smells ha!

That's the same as Pumper Sue Phoebe! though Sue's on bovine.

My old Pork insulin smells exactly the same as my current Novorapid.

My second husband hadn't smelt any for 25 years - his younger daughter's best friend was T1 and used to come and stay - she was on Bovine at that time cos I later asked her - but when I moved in, then on Humalin S & I - he said Oh that smell!

I've always wondered if real insulin smells like that too!
