Hi all, my 10 year old son was diagnosed three months ago. It's been hard coming to terms with the diagnosis and the impact on his life but feeling hopeful at this point - just had his first HbA1c test result - spot on and the team were really pleased for him. Glad to have got to this milestone. We are so proud of our son and its amazing to see him so much healthier as he was so unwell prior to diagnosis. Thought this might be a good time to dip my toe into the community. He recently started with a sensor which we're taking time to get used to. Experience with school has been mixed - quite difficult at times - and our next challenge is child care over the long summer holidays!

Hello @T1DMum ,

Thank you so much for joining our online community and sharing your story with us. I am so glad to hear your son's first test result went well and that he is so much healthier. How are you coping after his test?

We are all doing well thanks except I changed his libre last night and it isn't working today. Have contacted the manufacturer and they'll replace it but it will take a few days...so back to finger pricks!

Good to hear you have access to Libre @T1DMum - and that your duff sensor is being replaced 🙂

Thank you. I also just got the book Think Like A Pancreas which I'm finding really helpful. After the first couple of months when I think we were just in shock/panic mode, I finally feel like I can take things in in a reasonable way : )

Hi @T1DMum with a spot on HbA1c you and your son have clearly got things sorted. Well done.

It is good to hear that Abbott are replacing your sensor. You might find that your son’s GP would let you get ahead with the Libre prescriptions so that you have a buffer to deal with these situations.

Another book that you might find useful is T1 Diabetes in Children, adolescents and young adults by Ragnar Hanas. It is regularly updated with the latest tech so it is worth getting the latest edition.

Keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.

Thank you. I'm all for books at the moment...been spending too much time on my phone since diagnosis.
