Hi everyone. 🙂
I’ve been Type 2 diabetic for about a year and a half. Just got around to my first HBA1C blood test.
My results came back 36mmol (5.4) My doctor didn’t give much insight, just that it was “normal”.
Is this a decent result? Thank you for any advice!

Congratulations on your HbA1c! Can you remember what your result was when you were first diagnosed?

Current research suggests that where people can maintain an HbA1c below 48mmol/mol without taking medication they are considered to be in remission. That doesn’t mean their diabetes has gone away, but that it is being ‘held at bay’ for the time being.

Are you taking any medication to help with your blood glucose management?

Whatever you're doing seems to be working, great result 🙂

Thank you, everyone!

I can’t remember what it was initially, only that I was pre-diabetic and went over into type-2. I take 2 Metformin daily.

Thank you, everyone!

Since you have had a good result you may want to discuss reducing or coming off the metformin if you are committed to keeping up with the dietary changes you must have made.

I’ll give them a call tomorrow. I did make a few changes. The biggest for me was cutting out sugar and switching to “no added”/zero”. (The bonus is that I don’t miss full sugar things because they’re too sweet for me now, haha.)

You have done very well as most people find they need to reduce carbohydrates not just sugar as all carbs convert to glucose.

Congratulations on your excellent HbA1c result. As @Leadinglights mentioned you may be able to reduce the metformin with a view to aim for remission.
Wishing you well for the future!

Thank you! I did also lose around 2st (12kg), which I suspect has gone towards it.
