Hi all,

Well I'm almost 6 weeks post diagnosis, have a wonderful GP and smashing team of nurses so am very lucky in that respect judging by some others' experience.

Just had my third nurse appointment for the results of the armful of blood I gave last week. Also weigh in and BG check.

Good news is my BG is now 5.3 (started at 13, went to 9, fortnight ago was 5.8), and I've lost another kilo in this fortnight so 5 kilos down now 🙂 Still 25kgs to go but slow and steady wins the race - that's what I'm telling myself anyway!

The HbA1c was 7.7 which I was really surprised by - was expecting it to be much higher to be honest. Could that be because I caught the symptoms early?

Bad news is the cholesterol was high - I couldn't see the breakdown on the screen properly but she said it's at 8. I think one of the results was 4.4. So I'm back to the GP this afternoon for statins...boo. I don't eat a particularly fatty diet - am not keen on the 'obvious' fats like milk, cheese, cream etc so I'm going to struggle a little. Gutted too as I'd worked out potato dauphinoise was OK to eat (I'm a spud lover) and that's gonna have to go!

So all in all, 6 weeks and I'm keeping on keeping on. Read all the posts here with great interest and am rooting for everyone, it has been an invaluable source of support and information and for that I thank you all very much.

Take care
Jane

Congratulations on your good first A1c. Onward and downward!

Regarding your cholesterol... I gather that many T2s who move toward a moderate/low carb approach to eating find that as a bonus as well as much improved BG levels, they also find their cholesterol significantly improves, AND the split of good/bad/trigs gets better too.

There is only so much reduction you can make with reducuing fats, so perhaps Statins will give you a helping hand to begin with.

Twinkle well done on your hbA any reduction is a good one, regarding the statins do you know which ones your getting? i got put on statins and my cho was not that much above 4.Hope they are of some sucsess to you .

Twinkle, you should be chuffed! That's a great result and you're so new to this too. Keep up the good work. Delighted for you!

Donna x:D

Well done Twinkle - glad you have a good team.

You will be OK every now and then to have your spuds dauphinoise - just not all the time.

well done Jane , your going the right way🙂

i am 7 weeks dx, and lost 1 stone..wish it was more but hey ho, my 1st hbA on dx was 7;0, and my cholestral was 4.6

so when i go next month i am hoping for much lower readings, i am trying to avoid metformin and statins, but time will tell,

keep up the good work xx

Thanks for all your lovely replies!

Eat2live - you are doing brilliantly, well done you 🙂 I'm excited about getting the first stone off!

Saw my GP this afternoon for the prescription for Simvastatin. He's a bloody nice bloke, is a firm believer in the evils of the food industry adding more and more sugar to our foods and is a low carb supporter 🙂 Makes it so much easier to be able to have a good discussion with him instead of being talked 'at'.

He went through my blood results in detail, saying how he could tell from this result I ate alot of sugar, and didn't exercise, and ate 'some' processed foods etc....fascinating stuff (I'm a data analyst and like all that stuff!). He was as surprised as me at the 7.7 HbA1c, he said maybe there was some sort of 'trigger' like a virus or something but I can't recall anything. We concluded perhaps it was stress, I work full time, have 14 year old twins and since losing my dad 2 years ago have been caring for my mum who is severely disabled and had a brain tumour out last year. So I guess I'm entitled to feel a bit harrassed at times! Still, it could be worse!

Anyway I'm waffling again, thanks again for your kind words xx

P.S. Forgot to say...

Contrary to the difficulties experienced by others, my DSN this morning asked if I had a meter. I told her I've got one but am still flipping useless so haven't been using it. She said 'you didn't pay for it did you?', I told her I was a member here and had got it free from Abbotts as per advice. She said 'well you let me know when you want a prescription as you'll need test strips'.

I have concluded I'm very lucky with my health team 🙂

You sound as though you have a great team supporting you. Well done it sounds as though your hardwook is already paying off

well done you !!! x good luck with the statins x🙂

Brilliant Jane, well done! 🙂 It helps enormously when you have a good, proactive team, it's a shame they can't all provide that standard.

Fantastic Jane well done :D x
