Hi Alan

I will not comment on breakfast as you are aware about that one. My breakfast of choice (if you have time) is a couple of fried eggs with a couple of rashers of bacon - yummmm

Lunch - you seem to tolerate the Hovis but it does use up a lot of a daily allowance of carbs. Bergen bread is lower per slice and does taste nice (I cannot tolerate Bergen so my go to fav is the Lidl rolls)

Dinner - Rice might be something you need to restrict more or swap out for cauliflower rice. Lovely when fried in oil with a bit of butter added. Those cooking sauces are always packed with carbs *sigh*. 2 scratty little mushrooms! I use mushrooms as a plate filler (helps that I love the little tastes of loveliness). Add more veggies to the steak or (heaven forbid) salad to make it look more like a meal for a man rather than a punishment!

You can make your own Satay Sauce by mixing a dessert spoon of oil with peanut butter or you could just spread some peanut butter over your steak which is even easier.

'Step away from the biscuits'! 18 carbs added for just a little bit of gratification!

Your total carbs for the day is not bad - not good but not bad - you might find your BG comes down into a more normal range if you can drop below 100

You are doing great with your choices in general - keep up the good work. :D

All of the above!
Also try Lidl high protein rolls - enormous and just 11g carbs - slow release carbs too.

Cereals are a real killer. Join Lynn and me in an old fashioned cooked breakfast 🙂

thanks lynn, will take that on board, off to lidl soon.

Thanks susan I tend to have eggs at lunch but maybe i.ll switch them to brekky,

Alan - there are days I have eggs at breakfast, lunch and occasionally dinner (nice cheese and onion omelette)

Dredging my memory banks back to Atkins days for this one but you can take some peanut butter (either smooth or crunchy) and mix in some spices and perhaps a few chilli flakes to give it a bit of 'bite' if you like that sort of thing. Make enough and you can store it in the fridge for spreading on pork or chicken as well.

Do it when the meat is hot and it will melt into it nicely.

Sounds nice I will give that a try, Ta

Can i just say i like the way you have it the info laid out in your attached file, is that you applying it all to excel spreadsheet or you using an app?

You're going about things the right way I reckon, I know it really helps me to see things in black and white like that. Well done.

I'm another that has huge problems with cereals, except oatmeal which is my breakfast of choice, I sometimes have home made yoghurt and a few berries instead or at weekends, a good grill up - no frying these days.

It looks like My Fitness Pal. Either free online or downloadable app for either Android or ipad.

Goodness, what is this daily allowance of carbs of which you speak? The only carb guidelines I have been given is that they should make up roughly 40% of you calorie intake (at 4 cals per gram this would be about 200g carbs a day). Is there a different rule I don't know about? That food log looks pretty much perfect to me!

Thanks for the feedback folks, and well spotted lynn it is My Fitness Pal, I snipped it to excel to add my BG's im going to the nurse Monday and will take it with me. Just back from Lidl got the last 6 rolls, just had one and put 3 in the freezer.

😱 I'd be lucky to have my BG ever drop below 20.0 if I ate that many carbs.... 50g max for me if I want to stay below the recommended 8.5

Same here Bob. Oh to have that many carbs on the menu! Scones with jam and cream would be back in a trice 😉

Oh gosh, really? That's awful & I feel quite guilty! 😳 I haven't really been low carbing, just counting them & taking the appropriate bolus. Still quite new to all this!

I don't have the luxury of being able to control the amount of insulin at each meal. 😛

I probably could eat more carbs but that would mean the control would have to come from more powerful drugs and I would rather keep the drugs for when I am unable to control BG by diet and metfartin alone.

Slow Runner, as a type 1, you don't 'need' to go as low as type 2s may need to when low carbing.
You need as many carbs as you need, and with insulin, you can always cover them. T2s can't (unless they are on insulin). 200 carbs is quite a lot, but if it suits you, then its fine. Many T1s 'medium' carb rather than lo-carb - I have on average 100 carbs a day - not uncommon. But everyone is individual in their carb needs and ability to deal with them.

I'm no expert on type 1 but I think it's different because you can adjust the insulin. I don't know how I would cope on 50 a day. In a weird way I wish I had a food diary of what I ate 6 months ago for comparison.

My mum has recently been diagnosed with type 2 & is trying to control it with just diet. Her rules about what she can & can't eat seem very different to what I have been told. All very confusing. I like reading the posts on here as it gives perspective from all sides. It seems to me that type 2 is actually more invasive in that you have to drastically change your eating habits? I've not really had to change much - I like to think my diet was pretty healthy anyway but definitely not low carb!!

You're right slowrunner. There does need to be more drastic changes for type 2's. Some more drastic than others.

I didn't eat potatoes or much bread but did eat rice and pasta 2 or 3 times a week. So the drastic change on that front for me was quite easy.

The major change for me was baking! I love baking and decorating cakes and buns and since my diagnosis I have not done anything. My family are feeling very deprived lol

Once my thyroid levels normalise I might feel more like hitting the kitchen more often!
